engine management light - zx16v

yo dudes!
i've got a citroen zx 16v and recently the engine management light comes on for a few seconds then goes off again!? even when i'm sitting at a light! it can stay on for 40 seconds or so but when i clutch it and roll it does seem to stop?! crazy!
any ideas? can i take it to citroen (or any garage?) that can plug it in and tell me whats wrong?
any help would be great!
