I chickened out on fitting this - although I gather it's not so much difficult - just b****y awkward. Took four hours for my local Citroen specialist to fit it. Access to a ramp would aid the process.

Well the news isn't good.... I hadn't noticed during the wet weather that a patch of LHM had been gathering on my drive. Only when the STOP light started to illuminate did I investigate. The fittings are leaking - and I lost over a litre of LHM. The leak is from the point the flares enter the hydraulic fittings. It appears that the seat inside the fitting has been badly / roughly machined - so no amount of tightening will stop it. I'm now waiting to hear about a replacement - and in the meantime I'm without a car again :-(

I wonder if they forgot or didn't fit the seals correctly?

Hmmm - 'tis a point Chris...

I actually don't recall the kit coming with seals - but I do recall the hydraulic adapter did have a machined seat for the flare which looked quite rough IIRC. Only one of the adapters is leaking presently.

I did mine a couple of years ago. I can't remember if there were seals. But I know previous pipe work that forgetting a seal is easy done and always results on a leak.

OK the replacement hydraulic adapter arrived today. I just looked inside where the cunifer flare sits - and it doesn't look good to me. I've taken the best photo I can and included it here. There were no seals with the kit - should there be some? I can't see the flare sealing inside this fitting - no wonder the original one leaked :|

UPDATE: Well I fitted it - and I really don't want to tempt fate - but this one has sealed! I've tied some tissue around the fitting to detect any leaks and will take it for a drive later.

I've got a question for anyone who's replaced their Xantia power steering pipe with one of these kits. A year or so ago, I got one, and our local indy Citroen garage fitted it for us. It seems a fine replacement part, so absolutely no criticism intended, but since the replacement, we get quite noticeable steering vibration at or near to full lock, both ways...which was never the case before! I seem to recall reading somewhere that other people had experienced the same problem after replacing the pipe, but I've had a long hunt through this forum, and can't find anything mentioning it.
Has anyone here experienced this issue after replacing the power steering pipe, in which case have you any idea what's causing the vibration?
(Not that it's a major problem - we've learned to live with it...!)

Yes, this will be a problem if it's not an exact copy of the original... One big reason for the big rubber flexi section in the original is not only for it's flexibility but it also acts as a damper and shock absorber to eliminate the pulses and vibration you have noticed.

I've seen replacements made with a coiled section (as per the main hydraulic suspension/braking feed) and whilst this is fully effective to protect the pipe against engine movement with respect to the body, the car becomes horrible to drive as a result of vibration and pulsing felt at the steering wheel...

It will always be most intense at or near full-lock so if it's only at those points with your replacement then it is hopefully tolerable...

Yes this is something I have noticed. When first driving the car following the installation of the kit I was immediately aware of the engine being more audible at lower RPMs - and some stuttering / vibration to the steering towards the locks - again more noticeable at lower RPMs. It sounds like hydraulic pulsing from the pump as has been mentioned. The kits do have the rubber flexi - it's made up from standard hydraulic hose which may be too rigid perhaps?
