Where to buy: Xantia strut top and C5 Hdi Catalytic Convertor

Post by wurlycorner »

Hi all,

Sorry not been active really at all - not ignoring people just flat out busy.

Anyway, I'm in need of a couple of parts and trying to source the best value ones, interested if anyone has any good suggestions...

Firstly, Xantia Activa Strut top.
I have previously bought these from Malcolm Lockwood, but as we know, alas he's now retired.
Available from Citroen at something over £220 (I forget exactly).
I'm not after re-furbing my current one (not got the time to have the car in bits and not sure if the metal is even solid enough).
Can't find these through the usual suspects (GSF/Eurocarparts/AEP etc. etc.)
Anyone have any suggestions before I have to swallow my pride and bend over at the Citroen counter?

Secondly, series 1 C5 2.0 HDi cat (non DPF) for a 51 plate (so needs to be type approved Cat)
Mine is rotted and holed slightly in so many places all over it, that exhaust putty/wrap/welding up is not an option.
I've tried for about a month to find a good one used and all the sellers are either morons or don't sell them individually. So, new it is.
I've done loads of net trawling for new ones and the cheapest I can find is £109.68 through Autosessive. That's cheaper than from eurocarparts, even with the 25-odd% discount offer they had last weekend.
http://www.autosessive.com/products/741 ... -converter
Anyone know anywhere better than that?

Thank you :D

Iain, to my knowledge Strut Tops were always dealer only..

Your only source now is a wanted advert on here. Activa ones are identical to and Hydractive ones except the V6 ones which are unique.

You can, at a push, get away with non-hydractive ones but you'll need to drill and re-tap the feed pipe entry hole to take the bigger unions..

KingAS can refurbish ones that are pretty well-gone and he remains a good solution... His turn-around is about three weeks all told so not bad...

When the cat fell apart on my 51 plate C5, (the pipes rotted away from the main body of the cat.)
I simply had the local exhaust centre fabricate a straight piece of pipe to go in it's place.
Never had any MOT problems afterwards, so my recommendation is that you just do away with it. :-D

Thanks for the comments/suggestions gents.

Jim, I guess Malcolm bought them from Citroen at Trade price and sold them on at less than full retail price?
When I get a chance, I'll dig out an old catalogue of his and report back on what price he used to charge, if I remember.

I'm not a fan of de-catting really (haven't even taken them off my preludes when I've upgraded the exhausts to tuned exhaust systems!) I prefer trees. Sounds like my cat is going the same way yours did though centurus - perhaps the early type approved C5 ones have a crap quality casing?

Looks like Citroen and Autosessive it is!

Cheers

My vsx has fairly recent strut tops if you want the whole car for spares.

:-k
Just had a look in your profile thread. Is that the red one, or did I see that had bought another spares car too?
What's the score with it? Specs, how much already robbed etc. (Pics?)

Thanks, yep, had seen that one but it's one of the non type approved cats though, unfortunately.

I doubt an mot tester would know/check one way or the other, but I'd rather fit the right one (makes me feel good for some reason).

Just replied in your other thread, thanks for the offer but unfortunately (much as I would love to) I can't take it.

Also, to update on the exhaust purchase - very impressed. Ordered it thursday at 12:30, it was free 2 day delivery... On Friday at 11:30 it turned up at the doorstep!
