1995 Xantia 1.9 TD alarm

I've just changed the head gasket on the above - quite enjoyable realy !!!
I had the Neg lead off the battery as instructed in Haynes and once I connected it back up the Head lights keep flashing every time I open the door.- no siren ?
I haven't got a plip.
Can I disconnect the alarm system

PS the tip about marking the old cam belt and transfering the marks to the new belt to ensure that the timing is correct gave a good feeling that I'd lined up the timing correctly. Thanks - Forum members

Press and hold the ultrasonic sensor button while switching the ignition on.

The sensor switch is not on the Plip, there are three switches on the dash to the right of the steering wheel, it is the left hand one of these.
