Thinking about it, should earth have a voltage when either locked or unlocked? Under testing this had 0 volts throughout.

Thanks

Ok, now I have the VIN, I've looked up the codes and the wiring for the Driver's side lock: - and that M6202 Earth goes back the the MC31 earthing point, so shouldn't have any volts.
  • 6216A (BG - I'm guessing here, but Blue & Grey) - Boot Opening Output
  • M6202 (JV, so I'm guessing is Yellow & Green) - Earth
  • 620 (GR - Grey) - Child Safety Control
  • 629A (VE - Green) - Child Lock Button
  • 6211 (OR - Orange) - Rear Screen Actuator Control (?)
  • 692A - (BA - White) - (Unfortunately not in Database - so could be an error)
Anyway, I've PDF'd these to you now, so you can have a good look to see if this helps Mike.

Great Thanks Marc,

I will review the wires to determine the codes, my colours are probably a bit off.

Do you agree with my thought that there should always be a live going to the central locking otherwise it would be a bit pointless?

Thanks for your help again, if I can wrk out the fix with your info etc. I will post it up here, hopefully this can help others like the blower fix I previously posted.

Ok - All mailed through Mike - It looks as though the GREY wire (6203) on the rear doors is also linked through to the fronts via 620. 6203 is shown as the Left-Hand front lock locking '+' command. 6203 is the switch isolation diode (front / rear door).

Anyway let me know if you need some more codes looking up! :-D

Thanks Marc,

This is more advanced than I was thinking I will definitely give it a go before I have to take it to the professionals.

The weird thing is the central locking works when the ignition is on but does not when it is not.

This will keep me scratching my head for a few days.
Thanks

Nice one Paul! The BG was a bit of a guess! Beige it is. This will help as they don't have that combo on the wiring legend - will come in handy for future ref

Hi Guys,

I used the wiring diagram from Marc and the colour code from Paul to try and match the wires going to the central locking.

The wiring diagram shows 6 wires + earth but I have 7 wires + earth.

The codes for mine are as follows:

Purple - 6205
Green 6290
Green 6220A
Salmon 6217
Beige (BG) 6221 [expected code 6216A]
Grey (GR) 6201 [expected code 620]
Green & Yellow M6202 (CORRECT)
Orange (OR) (6211)

So my codes do not match the codes in the wiring diagram which confused me and I have 2 Green's .
I have a Salmon colour and a Purple but the remaining one from the wiring diagram is BA White.

Now I am confused...

I had two C3's before this one but they were new so I had no problems.

Now I have this older Xsara and i am trying to overcome the challenges.

Having another look at the diagram, the RS (Pink) (6216 on the diagram) is shown under the IC97 and IC98 which are the fascia harness interconnections to the Driver's (IC97) and Passenger's (IC98) door harnesses. The IC91, A & B are the Fascia harness interconnections with the passenger compartment harnesses.

The trouble now is one man's salmon is another man's beige, as I'm always being told!

Update,

My Father-in-law had a go at this problem on Saturday. He connected a permanent live to the wire showing a voltage when then ignition was on only. This did not work, he then tried a wire from the battery to this wire in the loom and the temporary wire started to burn so he decided to stop and disconnect.

The central locking is now back to where it was before the mechanic looked at it. The drivers door does not start the central locking at all and the passengers side unlocks straight away when the lock is pressed and the central locking engages.

I am thinking of buying a second hand wiring harness for the door, that could work if there was a break in there, but I am not sure if I can find the correct part number.

I think it is nearly time to call in the professionals, I guess I need an auto electrician?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

I've been following your thread but I'm sure I can't be the only one who's confused about what buttons and the like you're operating. You can lock the car several ways:

1) When inside using the locking rocker switch on either of the front doors
2) When outside by turning the key in the key barrel of either of the front doors
3) When outside by operating the button on the remote control key fob

Perhaps if you follow the numbering above and tell us exactly what happens with each option we might get a better idea of what's going on.

I have had problems with the door locking on my wife's Xsara a couple of times. The first time it wouldn't operate properly (from the key fob) I found that one (possibly more - can't remember) of the wires in the drivers door loom had fractured and need a new section soldering in.

The second time (and I had the same problem with C5), when operating the remote close there would be a clunk (locking), a second clunk (unlocking) and a beep as if one of the doors wasn't closed properly. This was only fixed by replacing the door lock mechanism.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your post hopefully I can clear things up.

1) When inside using the locking rocker switch on either of the front doors
2) When outside by turning the key in the key barrel of either of the front doors
3) When outside by operating the button on the remote control key fob

Key not in the ignition:
1) When inside using the locking rocker switch on either of the front doors
Drivers
The rocker locks and unlocks the drivers door only, the central locking does not engage.
Passengers
The rocker locks and unlocks the passengers door only, the central locking does not engage.

2) When outside by turning the key in the key barrel of either of the front doors
Drivers
The barrel locks and unlocks the drivers door only, the central locking does not engage.
Passengers
The rocker locks and unlocks the passengers door only, the central locking does not engage.

3) When outside by operating the button on the remote control key fob
Nothings happens, I did hold one of the buttons in the first 10 seconds when the ignition was on and the fob did sync.

Key in ignition and turned on:
1) When inside using the locking rocker switch on either of the front doors
Drivers
The rocker locks and unlocks the drivers door only, the central locking does not engage.
Passengers
The rocker locks then unlocks immediately on the passengers door the central locking is engaged and all the doors are unlocked.

2) When outside by turning the key in the key barrel of either of the front doors
Not relevant.

3) When outside by operating the button on the remote control key fob
I have pressed the fob when the ignition is on and nothing happens.

The ignition has to be on and the passengers door rockers has to be pressed to engage the central locking (lock and immediate unlock) to access the boot.

Before some testing the other day the central locking worked on both doors when the rocker on either door was pressed but ignition had to be on.

I tested some wires tonight and the two live (ignition on) are still live but some of the trigger wires did not have a voltage.

I was thinking of purchasing the wiring harness for inside the drivers door but I am not sure where to get the part from and the correct part number.

Thanks
Mike
