New tyres

Post by JohnD »

I´ve seen in one of the hypermarkets near Malaga some Michelin 205/60x15 91H tyres priced at 100 Euros (72 quid) each including valve and balance. I´m nearly ready for some front replacements on my Xantia, how does this price compare with UK price?

Seems like a fair price. I use www.tyre4u.com as a price guide and they list Michelin in this size at £85.97! Having said that, Goodyear NCT5 are only £52.21 in this size.

If you are looking for tyres then I can whole-heartedly recommend Wembley tyres (Willesden High Road) just off the North Circular Road. They buy tyres in seriously large bulk quantities (even supplying HI-Q etc) and then pass the discount onto customers. I have bought several sets recently and recommended them to friends and every time their prices have undercut everyone else by very significant amounts. The bonus on top is that the owner, Marcus, keeps his men on their toes so lenghty waits just don't occur here. If anyone is interested, give him a ring on 0208 459 6191.

John,
Bought some exact same tyres in France this summer but at price of £75 each with valve, balance etc. We reckoned this was good value compared to UK prices we found in our area - they were about £85 just for tyres - though of course others may know where they are cheaper!

Have a look at www.mytyres.co.uk the Michelin's are £59.70 delivered to your door, just need to arrange fitting yourself. I've used them before and found the service to be excellent.

Thanks for the advice. www.mytyres.co.uk price look a real bargain, but I guess a local dealer won´t look kindly on me rolling up with tyres that I hadn´t bought from him. He´ll charge accordingly for valve and balance. In the end I´ve bought three Michelins from the hypermarket. All fitted and balanced for 300 Euros. Funnily enough the tread pattern is different from the last two. Also, I´m more than satisfied with a life of 72000 miles all for five tyres.

If you look on the website, they have links to dealers in some areas including cost of fitting. Try asking around at a few local garages first, could be as little as £5 per wheel. When I ordered from them for a previous car, I was told that there was a 7 day wait and that I could cancel at anytime and I got lots of emails keeping me informed. Tyres came after only 4 days, very impressed. I think they also offer a 30 day money back offer as long as they haven't been fitted.
