Xantia 1.9TD Drive Belt Tensioner Removal

Post by Zelandeth »

Okay, I've just spent the last hour swearing at the Xantia and am no closer to figuring out how to resolve my problem. Usual issue of "it would be really easy to work on this car if the whole car wasn't in the way."

Knackered belt tensioner (the spring loaded one), got the new one in my hand, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the old one off. The issue seems to revolve around how to detach the spring from the tensioner...I assume they are bolted together, but if that's the case what on earth is the trick to getting the bolt out? There doesn't look to be anywhere near enough clearance to get any tools in to the end of it, nor can I see any way to remove the assembly in one piece due to access.

...Not without removing the hydraulic pump anyway.

...Which I really hope I don't have to do.

It is a bit of a !"£!£!" though, (I've only done a 406 one and that was not great fun)

I wondered why I could not get onto the forum for a while this afternoon. Now I know; the filters were overloaded!

On the way into Burnham on Sea (junction 22, IIRC) there is a place on the left called "Chestnut Farm". They do a VERY good (in my opinion) scrumpy cider for (when I got it) around £1 per litre. It is definitely not chemical (found a couple of flies in one 5l batch; they died merry), and it has teeth!

Sadly James, for me, of academic interest only - I'm severely alcohol intolerant...

Mind you, back in the days when I could, I used to enjoy a small glass of proper local scrumpy. Lovely stuff :D

Shame about that. However, if you know people who like a decent scrumpy, next time you are going that way you might get a few requests.

They'll have to get in quick James as I'm now into my last few regular trips down this way... Soon I'll have no reason to come down here again.
