c5 x7 ride

Post by renagade »

Hi Guy's its me again.
I read all these problems with the current c5 with the wet suspension,I have the coil springs on my c5 and I think the car ride just as my three ds super 5's and my cx and my bx which as you all know used the wet suspension. I do like the ride and the way you can throw the car around. I must say at this point I have never driven a c5 x7 with the wet suspension.

Well as we know they are doing away with Hydropneumatic / Hydractive suspension so it won't be an issue for long  , but the one thing they won't have on the new system is automatic ride height control regardless of load. Now that would make a huge difference for a family of 4 Mr Blobby's with 2 tonnes of the weekly shop in the boot!

Every car I have personally owned has been a Hydraulic Citroen - although I have driven many, many other makes and types, but I just couldn't contemplate owning a standard sprung one in the future, the ride just doesn't compare IMHO. 8-)

It's always funny doing a huge shopping run and having the car on its a*se, to self right when you start it :-D

I must say, now that the suspension on the Xantia is working properly it's an absolute dream to sit in. Cruising at 80 on the M56 home yesterday and it just wafted! A friends V6 has hydractive and that is even better, almost like its not even touching the floor!

How soft must the springs be in the X7 then to come close to it? Nearest i've found is (suprisingly!) a Rover 45 that I did some work on that was suprisingly comfortable!

There is nothing and I mean nothing that can beat the Citroen DS of yesteryear. I had three of them and I was only 23 years old but they were just the best. I had two exantia's and they were very close.
I liked the ds semi auto which was (when set up right ) very nice to drive . But has I say I do find the c5 x7 very nice even with the steel coils on.

As discussed before on this forum, perhaps this should be the next generation of suspension, however, I would imagine it would be very expensive. like all Bose stuff is.

A cracking system, a complete shame that it never got more widely adopted which would of ultimately brought the costs down one would of thought. I mean come on, why is this so difficult? Surely this is what everyone would want in a normal passenger car? Didn't they ever go out and market the system - and what have they done with it now..... made super non-bouncy truck driver seats!!
