Xantia sills.

Post by daviemck2006 »

Can anyone tell me what the hole in the outer sill about 4 inches behind the front wheels and plugged with a rubber seal is for. I ask as I had a welder have a quick look at my car yesterday to see what bits need welding. At first look there is the passenger door shut which the guy says will be much easier and a better job with a donor bit, both of said holes in the sill, the question is just patch over or have to fabricate over, and two small holes in the floorpan on drivers side. That was just a quick look with the car on the ground, he is off on holiday so I have to go see him in a couple weeks when it shall go up on the ramp for a thorough look. He did say he would be able to do the door shut without a donor bit, but the finish would not be so great, which for me would not be the end of the world as it's not seen apart from when the door is open, but obviously the neater the repair is the better. So again anyone breaking one and the left side door shut is good please message me if you could take a grinder and cut a bit out for me.

Davie

Thanks. My printer is kaput lol. I'll print these off at my daughter's and give them to the guy, see if it guides him any. I really hope there's no more underneath

Well I don't have a goldfish, I will happily show you my son, but I really want my daughter's and grandaughters to be ok so I spose I'll just print those photos of the pages and see if that helps the guy. I think even that should give him some pointers

I suppose outer sills will be NFP nowadays. A phone call to a dealer needed in the near future will be required. If there is the start of patching on them, may be as well biting the bullet and doing the lot, to make a better job of it when the mechanics of it and the rest of the body is so good.

I'll have a search on the internet in the next few days and see what I can find. It's just my way of thinking. It doesn't need sills, but it could be 1 wee patch here, another there and in a couple of years it could be a mess of patches. Do a bigger job properly just now and fix the possibility of more problems in the future. That's what we did on the boat when I had a share of it. Fix the problems properly and it cost less for maintenance in the long run. And considering I want to keep this car it seems the right thing to do.

Hi Davie, I'm at work at the moment and unlikely to be online for the next couple of days. But if you search my posts, about a year ago, you'll find a link to somewhere which does complete sills for the Xantia. If you'd like to take a trip up to Shetland, I know where there are 3 xantias awaiting cubing.

Hi Davie,
Sorry to take so long to get back. The company is http://carz2.co.uk/ When I made the enquiry 2 years ago it was £63.30 for one sill delivered.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Chris. I've just had a quick look, still available at £46, did not check delivery. That's one option covered then.

I haven't found them. If the sills are just starting to go then possibly the inner panels are ok, but then if it's started from inside they could be gone. It might be ok fabricating bits for them as they are never seen.
