Windscreen washer motor?

Post by xantiagreen »

Washer motor seems to have packed up, when I pull the stalk towards me the wipers start but no water and can't hear the motor whizzing at all. Is there a fuse in the car or under the bonnet for the washer motor or is it more likely to have died.

Cheers

Depends what car you have but the washer motors I have replaced have been under £10, and straightforward enough to do, although on the Renault clio I did, windscreen wipers/and plastic scuttles had to be removed to get access to the bottle, and its not always easy to get the windcreen wipers off.

I think that on a Xantia you need to remove the front bumper.

On a Mk1 the washer bottle doesn't need to come out, the motor hangs underneath it.
It can be done through the drivers side wheel arch.
I did mine when the liner was out with the wheel off when I was doing the cambelt.
Not sure if you have to take off the liner or just a bit of under plastic but probably easiest with the liner removed.
Mk2 can't be that different, or is it?

my mk2 xant is pretty much the same as above, drivers side arch liner loosened, pump pulled out, replaced with matching unit from local breakers yard for £3, connected back up and job done, if memory serves me correctly, a lot of the similar aged PSA cars share the same pump,

Cheers Timmo seems the pump has come back to life not sure how, as there was no life in it for over a weeks or so I'd try it every other day to see check and today it worked as it use to front and back :-D . Not sure whether to leave alone till it does it again or just change it?

Cheers

Might not have been the pumps fault, I'd wait.

Could have been blocked? Or dirty connection, hopefully it will last, sods law states it'll go just after you have filled the reservoir to the top! ;-) :-D :-P
