C3 HDI timing belt and eolys

Post by jsp »

Hi, I have here a C3 HDI 2011 1.6 and it needs refill of eolys

Where is this tank and how to refill?

By the way timing belt is on its interval so it needs to replaced aswell any extra tips?

How to get the crankshaft timing plate off? Its leaking behind there.

Post up the VIN and I'll look them up. 2011 was the change over from 16V to 8V engine - belt change on the 16V is reasonably straightforward, I would imagine the 8V is similar - do you know which it is? 16V has a plastic engine cover saying HDI 16 on it, 8V just has a felt cover. Eolys tank is probably a flexi pouch - you just change the whole thing.

My only thought really I wanted to add to this is on the 1.4 and 1.6 HDi units I'd recommend replacing the tensioners (unlike the 2.0 8v units which seem to be OK) , maybe consider water pump while you are there. Pointer type tensioner so no guesswork should be needed.

Belt is not difficult, the 16v unit has a chain to drive the other cam from what I can recall, so you do not need to string the timing belt around two cam sprockets.

Note: The hole in the crankcase area / flywheel area is to 'lock' the crank pulley so you can remove it. It is *not* the timing position ( ! ) , its just for 'locking' , the timing position is set via the crank pulley itself from what I can recall. A hole in the pulley a bit like the older XU petrol engines used to have (if that makes sense)

Have you got the crank pinned in the proper position and not using the one above the exhaust which is only for undoing the crank bolt?

I didn't have much trouble on my C4 (this is the older 16V engine, but the belt set up looks the same) - although I couldn't get the belt back on with the idler pulley in place - I had to fit the belt first, and the pulley after. Have you got the tension OK - IIRC it was quite difficult to hold the tensioner in the correct position and get the nut done up.

I did check the Eoyls, and yes, it's a flexi pouch on yours.

Lexia / Diagbox only really.

One of the very high end Snapon 'Verdict' ones (might) be capable of it but the more commonly available code readers ones I doubt it.

No one local to you with said Lexia ?
Andy.

I did reset with my Delphi DS150E luckily it has those options. Its on 230.000km So the next 240.000km[150k mls] here it goes :).

I refilled the pouch with a 3L powerflex can as this is cheaper than the pouch. It also had a full service so ok for the next 16k mls.

I removed the whole Eolys box to refill it.
