Xsara Picasso excl. 2004 cruise control prob.

Post by rmunns »

Although we have owned the car 4 years I have never fixed the cc, which never worked. This was because my wife, who drives the car, does not want it. Because we might sell, I want to try to sort it out. Any tips, please?

Do you know if it ever worked, even for a previous owner? Or was it fitted later on and never worked?

By the by, your wife is not in the minority. My sample is very small but it seems to me that it's only women who don't like cruise control. Me, I think it's brilliant and use it even on my 6 mile commute to work and back.

You will need to get it on Lexia to see what it is or isn't doing. Does anything appear on the screen when you turn it on?

Somewhat similar - I use it all the time; whereas SWMBO has only ventured to use it a couple of occasions on the m-way. Some worry about it ' running away' with her! Don't think my Mum has used it in either their C4 Pic or Relay Motorhome - same again, frightened of it!

Being an exclusive it was most likely factory fitted.
The CC system is very basic so should be fairly easy to get to the bottom of if you get it on lexia.
You need to get on live data on the engine management system & check the clutch switch operation when the clutch switch (assuming it is a manual model) is pressed & released and also check both brake switch circuits are reading correctly when the pedal is pressed & released.
Check that RVV is set to present in the engine management system programing menu. If that's all ok go into com2000 live data & check that all the buttons on the cruise stalk are being seen to be operating when the buttons are pressed.
Certain fault codes in the engine management system may also disable the CC function so also check engine management faults.

Thanks for the replies. There is no way I can get to hook up to a Lexia, without the car going to a dealer. Aaaaarrhhh!

I seem to remember asking a question when we first got the car and as a result got down to the clutch pedal to check a switch. ??, but it proved inconclusive. I didn't carry on.

The car's a manual. I get nothing up on the screen when I do anything with the cc lever. Never did.

I have a C5 with Cruise Control (OK, I added the stalk and activated it with my Lexia, but the wiring and other switches were already in place and correctly calibrated), and there is no visual indication the CC is running.
