clutch cables

Post by DublinChris »

What are people doing for replacement clutch cables? Original parts seem to be discontinued from Citroen and motor factor is offering a replacement to correct part number but it has automatic adjustment. My series 2 1998 1.9TD has a non automatic adjusting cable. Mine has not broken but the clutch action does not feel great even though it has a new clutch so was going to try change cable to get a smoother feel to pedal action.
Any thoughts?

Chris

Hi,
The local Peugeot garage here in France tried for a whole day to put a third-party self-adjusting clutch cable on Snoopy (1997 S1 Xantia) and failed - it would not work. So I managed to find a new OEM cable in the UK and that went on like a dream.

There do appear to be some OEM parts around but you have to search.

Good luck,
Juliet

Go to your local dealer, they will do a search of all dealers and it may be available somewhere and you can contact the dealer who has it and they will post it to you. Has to be worth a try.

Try GMF they seem to be good for this stuff, have branches all over the country, the boss has Irish connections but I don't know if he's in business over there.

Thanks fro the lead Gibbo 2286. I started with GMF which eventually brought me to Micksgarage. They had a non self adjusting cable so I have the longer self adjusting and the shorter non self adjusting. Believe it or not it will be next tuesday before car goes in to have cable changed so hopefully the shorter one will work!

Just to update this thread. the non self adjusting clutch cable proved to be too short so the self adjusting one was fitted. It went on smoothly with no alterations needed so even though original was non self adjusting the outcome seems to have been satisfactory. :)

Why did you need to replace the cable Chris?
