Xsara Picasso

Post by stevecoco »

Hoping someone on here can help. I have a problem with the indicators on my wifes car. Indicating left is ok, but right indicating it flashes for 3 cycles then cancels, this is intermittant, sometimes it works ok, I have fitted a brand new battery. When its raining it is worse. (Bad earth?)

Cheers

I'd be inclined to try another flasher can as that's quick & easy (though have no idea about access on that particular model).

Then look at the bulbs/holders - but try the hazards 1st. I wonder if the issue's not the stalk.

Hi Steve

What age is it? Early ones (up to 2002) didn't have multiplexed controls whereas later ones did.

Its a 2005 plate (05), its in the garage, but because its intermittant, they think I'm mad (could be true). Changed the battery as someone said this could be the fault, do not want to spend 500 plus on a new stalk just to find it still occuring. Its the wifes car and she is nipping my heed at the moment.

Sounds like the Comms 2000 unit (the electronic unit that holds all the stalk controls) just behind the steering wheel. The contacts can wear out on the printed circuit, or it can be several of the components depending upon type of unit that can fail. These can be repaired - here are a few links for additional info:

I would suggest getting it checked out with a Lexia first - but if it is the comms 2000 unit, they rarely give a fault as the behaviour is intermittent. If you post up your VIN, we can provide the right part for you if it proves to be the unit and you want to look for a replacement. :-D

I've given you the links to similar parts, but if you post your VIN, I can tell you the part number you need to get a replacement. There are many different versions so you can't afford to guess.

Usually it is at the bottom left corner of the windscreen looking from the outside. There is a little area like a small window in the windscreen with a long 15 alphanumeric number - that's the VIN and uniquely identifies your vehicle. From this we can tell you everything about the car from when it left the factory. The other place is on your vehicle registration document - it will begin with 'V'.

Ok Steve, the part for this is 6242 C3 - the original part was replaced by Citroen and this is the correct part number for you. Doing a quick google will bring up a lot of choices.

The price for a new one from Citroen is £218.76 + VAT = £262.51.
There are refurbished ones that range in price considerably, so look around. If you get a second hand unit from ebay they can be from about £40 up.

You don't have the cruise control stalk, just the audio stalk on the right - this should be interchangeable if you locate one without this.

Note: If you are going to attempt replacement yourself, I can give you the procedure (send me a Private Message with your email so I can send the PDf to you - but don't post your email here (Spambots)). You will need to be very careful removing the unit, as the Air bag connectors are there and the steering wheel angle sensor and the ribbon cable cassette that needs to be locked into place to stop it moving.

Have a look here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 15&t=53853 Graeme may well be able to repair it if you can do without the car for a few days. Search for COM2000 repair on e-bay - he's very helpful! I got an exchange unit for my Sister for about £100, can't remember where from though...

Very impressed with the helpful/positive response Steve got to this but I'm left with this thought about how even simple components/faults have become more complicated/expensive on "modern" cars - & they call it progress (is this why Dacia's are now so popular in France, I wonder)
