c5 x7 rooflining

Post by jgra1 »

hi all, I tried to fit my old roof bars to the X7 tonight, but upon undoing the first blanking bolt in the roof, the captive escaped..

Is it possible to get the roof lining down enough to stick it back under the roof?* I have never touched roof linings, and cant believe I need to now, on a 6 year old car
* If I can get any access, what would you suggest to hold it back in place? please don't say weld it :-D

many thanks
John

That sounds about right Richard!
What's happened John? Have you lost the bolt through the roof bar recess? Can you use one of those telescopic magnetic probe things and get it back that way?

I just undid the thing and all was loose and I keep undoing ..for reasons I don't understand...
So it's a piece of steel roof and next stop is the lining ... tried carefully with small drivers and magnets but it's gone .. I think I will be able to get in and stick it back .. but not totally sure.. ;)

For some reason I thoughty old c5 was different .. there was more to it .. the roof bar bolt down was all exterior.. could be wrong..

Well for the roof lining, if you get any loose bits, use a bit of double-sided carpet tape - but that is strong stuff, so don't use it if you need to take the lining off again as it will probably tear it. If you need any diagrams for the roof assembly / showing the trim and bars, just give me a shout.

just to finish this off... if you have issues with roofbar fitting (I don't have the bars so I am not 100% how they fit) you can access all the captives under the roof by just removing a bit of door seal and putting your hand up the gap :) - on mine 2 captives broke free ..

if anyone has c5 x7 saloon bars to sell shout ;)

The ones in the link won't fit the X7 John, the correct part number for the C5 X7 saloon is 9416 AV (currently £155 - £166 inc. VAT and fitting from Citroen).
The ones in the link are for the Mk 1 and Mk 2 facelift Saloon and they are part number 9416 58

sorry all .. to update this .. don't touch those things in the roof ..they are the posts the bars clamp too ! I discovered after getting some roofbars.. (for some reason I thought they were just blanking plugs like older c5!)

I retrieved my captive nuts quite easily and put them back in with some sealant on.. removing the door seal allowed a bit of room for a magnet etc..
