Re: Xsara estate boot lock
I have the exact same problem on my wife's Xsara Estate. The wiring loom on the tailgate (and the doors) of the Xsara are underspecified and constant flexing causes them to eventually break. I fixed this once before some five years ago by cutting out affected wires and soldering replacement ones in place but nothing lasts forever.
Other items that are affected by broken wires are the rear wiper and the heated rear window. On the doors the speakers often fail and if the electric window or locks start playing up chances are that it's he wires.

You will end up having to take the loom out from behind the rear lights. This means taking a substantial portion of the trim out to be able to pull the loom through to get at it properly. You'll also need a supply of cable to replace the broken one(s) with.
Whatever you do, don't just solder up the broken wire at the point it broke as this is the bending area and needs to be as flexible as possible - you need to cut a section out. You'll also need some insulating tape to cover up the soldered joints or, even better what I used, heat shrink tubing.
