C5 3.0 V6 Exclusive - 4HP20 auto shifter detent issue

Post by sonoramicommando »

Hi all,
I had a bit of an issue with the shifter detent - it locked me out at P position and wouldn't let me to shift to any other position.
I opened it up and found the following:

Basically the white plastic thing had a tab each at the end of the leg (one of them still had a tab before that one broke before taking this photo), which I'm guessing holding in the cavity and stopping it bouncing out. There is a spring under the white thing by the way.
Has anyone come across this?
And does anyone know what the part number is and how much it is etc?
I tried Citroen Service but it didn't go into detailed breakdown (or most likely i don't know what i'm doing)
Cheers,
Sam

As an aside, your car will have a 4HP20 transmission, not an AL4, which is not tough enough for the V6.

Thanks for the link - I am aware of aussiefrogs forum but usually FCF is my first port of call.
By the way, I found that the car will not drive properly with the part removed.
The temporary fix (which is still in place) is to lock out the gate leading to Park from Reverse with speedtape, as that is the only area where it'll pop out. If the part is removed altogether, it will not sit tight on either D or manual change gate and the car slams on brake by itself after travelling a few meters (which may have something to do with my car, which has some uncurable ECU issues)
Cheers,
Sam

not an AL4
That’s where you miss out on the fabulous qualities of the AL4.
I had that thing out for months with the gearstick staying in its place.
I even very confidently drove from Sydney to the Gold Coast and back like that without any problems.
