.. and get up to speed on whatever a 'Doseur Valve' does /;I

Provides a dose I spose
;) haha

(actually, I'd be rather relived to not have to spend two days pulling my dashboard off AGAIN!!! In five years to replace a £20 heating matrix :p )

SOLVED!!!! Again! :p

Thanks again to the late Citronut :/
Got the correct parts and did the job in one go without having to put everything back together and - repeat. (That would have been nasty!) :I

Anywho
Brake Control Unit leak repair!

Slippery feet - hmm
Image

Image

Pool of hydraulic fluid temp repair with NEWSPAPER! HAHA
Image

after reading all Citronuts posts on this and ordering parts...

Off comes the engine mount as the doseur valve is wedged between the bulkhead and the back of the engine :(
Image

As mentioned by Citronut, I twisted the Control Unit around 'carefully'
Image

One ring to rule them all comes off
Image

Finally access to the Brake Control Unit Protector!
Image

.. nothing seemed wrong here....
Image

hmmmm
Image

AHA! You little bugger! YES! Love it when you can see the blatantly obvious issue :)
Image

Reassembly is just the reverse.... oh, and a minor detour with having to repair the split low pressure return LHM hose I split turning the unit round ~ oops.

Excellent work Romie :D This is an excellent guide to the job. I take it you removed the engine mount so that the engine could tilt forward and give more access to the dosuer valve?

What's the purpose of that box of switches under the dash?

YES, exactly. I put the car on jacks, removed the upper and lower mount and dropped the engine as far as it would go, (basically hanging off the mount on the other side.).

It was a VERY tight squeeze still.
I depressurised the hydraulic system first.
Then I moved all the aircon pipework out the way as much as possible and just managed to turn the unit around enough.
I split one of the low pressure return pipes when I did this, but just repaired with a couple of cable clamps and a bit of hose I cut from a spare strut lhm return pipe.

The switches?
Haha, I've had them on there for three years now
It's a result of my frugalness.
Put it this way, a replacement ignition barrel would cost a hundred odd quid. (old one finally died from having to switch the heavy current fan loads if I remember rightly).
I looked at the ignition switch wiring and realised I could just replace it with three toggle switches and a push button ;) hahah :p

So that my ignition box
MOTs are fun, I need to teach them how to fire her up :p

 Excellent. I love it and what an excellent idea :-D It would defeat any potential thief too

Thanks for the supplementary information on doing the dosuer Romie; another case of where there is just enough room if you think it through.. Many jobs on a Xantia are like that...

One is given to ponder if it was clever design or just lucky accident

Ah, not shown in that pic is, believe it or not, I actually put some time into fitting my own immobiliser circuit in there as well! :p
Opportunists would never be able to start her, (although the fact she's a nice shade of Metallic Poo Brown and looks in a right state, that's an anti theft deterrent in it's own right! haha ;) (I should get money off my insurance just for her looking the way she does! Wonder what that'd be classed as? hmm ))

Knowing insurance companies and their fondness for wringing every last penny out of honest motorists, I'd bet next years premiums that they'd actually class tattiness as a "modification" and load you up for it!!!

No problem, all you guys put the effort in to helping, I feel this is my little way of trying to return the favour.
I've not seen a few images like this anywhere, and it would have helped me, so I put them up for others.

:)

Clever design? Grrrr these Les Bast-ards!! "I was thinking" ;) (I gotta be careful, I'm half French :p )

Ok, there is some VERY clever design in the car, I feel. I do wonder sometimes how big their balls were in putting some of the systems in they have on her.
BUT, I also think they built up the entire engine and with the help of a CAD design just squeezed the engine in afterwards leaving the thickness of a fag paper all the way round ;D haha
I would have liked a wider longer car with a foot clearance around the engine instead!! hahah aaaaah, the dream..
Kinda why I went for the Transit Minibus, I was going for lots of space and something I could fix with a spoon :p

(in reality, a spoon is not what's needed. A dirty great welder and an infinite length of welding wire is what's needed for her! Grrr )

Cheers for the help!

She lives again! Next oil and filter change: 320,000 miles :)
