Just when id almost managed three months of trouble free motoring with my beloved c5 2.0 hdi.........
Pulled battery off to run a maintenance charge on it, plumbed it back in now the car is stuck in eco mode with immobilizer fault and wont start which i believe I need it to do to be able to lower the drivers window to follow the BSI reset...
from what ive read am i right that eco mode comes on if the battery is low? its measuring 12.7V and all the fuses are ok
the missus is supposed to be driving from lincoln to oxford tuesday for work and shes going mad at me
ive done a few searches and all i can come up with is the car needs to start to get out of eco mode, but with the immob fault thats not gonna happen.
I have tried the key in ignition, hold lock for 10 seconds, remove then lock and unlock car but it still stays in immob fault & econ mode
any help would be appreciated!

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
Eco mode won't stop it starting. If you just took the battery off without letting it go to sleep first it may have 'lost' the keys hence the immob fault. You need to get it on a Lexia to find out what it's upset about....

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
Ah, you have a Lexia.... You need to go somewhere to see if it can see the key - it might be engine ECU, looking for unlocked status on the parameters. If you have got the code card; then you could just try re-introducing the keys - sometimes they just forget them!

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
I got the immobiliser fault up when I rushed the battery refitting once.
Just try removing and refitting using the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure
As said, economy mode won't prevent you starting it.

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
thanks for the quick response, ive tried to follow your steps but i cant drop the window because its stuck in eco mode. Tried it by latching the door to trick it but it still starts up in economy mode with immob fault. I have the reg of the donor vehicle but not the VIN which is what I need for the 4 digit pin code to get me into the bsi programming screen. I have a couple of blank transponders i never got round to programming so if i could get into that then I could probably sort it but the donor car owner had binned all the paperwork all i have is the reg of the donor car, FL52ZZE, which has now gone to citroen heaven.

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
I have done it with the door left open. Not recommended but it worked. Battery had died so also could not open the window.

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
been through the BSI options that dont require a pin, its showing the following if this helps......
bsi match - yes
bsi anti scan - no
keys - 2
ecu lock - no
tranciever recognised - yes
bsi blank - no
at the risk of stating the obvious.....is that saying it remembers 2 keys, its matched to the ecu, the ecu isnt locked and it recognises the plip ?
gone through the reset procedure as given...as soon as I reach in and turn sidelights on we're back in economy mode
ive sourced the VIN so waiting on the PIN code now hopefully I will be able to see more once I get into the BSI menu thats locked

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
Just as an aside, how old is the battery? It may show 12.7V but has it got enough welly to crank the engine? We know that C5s need a good battery or electrica will play up.

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
2 years old a big chunky varta one, just had a full charge, showing as 3/4 on the onboard voltmeter
ive pulled the battery, ecu and bsi (in that order lol) given them an hour, contact cleanered the plugs and sockets, then connected them up in reverse order trying the bsi reset procedure again (6th time today) and crossing my fingers, toes and everything in between but still stuck in eco mode, turns over but doesnt start. Bleeps with key in when i open door so think the immob is detecting key correctly?

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
Does it turn over quickly when cranked?
Another problem with C5s is the starters fail after a while. It won't start if it isn't spun over fast enough.
I thought my battery was dying but it turned out to be the starter.
New starter and all is well again.

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
I also had a starter motor that was showing its' age (she would start, but it could take a few moments before she would catch). I got a refurbished Bosch starter motor from GSF for around £110, but I also got a refund around £40 when I gave them back the old motor. The new motor spins so quickly I thought the car would turn over, as well as the engine!

Re: stuck in eco mode with immob fault
thanks for your words of wisdom starter seems ok ive about had it with the damn thing had to go out buy another C5 on the cheap so the mrs can get to oxford tuesday and the SX will be heading to the scrappy this week or im going to take a lump hammer to it basil fawlty style.
thats the great thing im finding with these C5s, theyre almost disposable motoring
this one is a year newer, 25k less, dmf and clutch been done 15k ago, drives like a dream....compared to the SX thats just died its like day and night....so much smoother and comfier and the interior is much cleaner....few less gadgets as its only an LX not a SX only issue ive found is when idling theres a rattle type sound that dissapears as soon as you accelerate which I will investigate tomorrow....drove it 70 miles home and other than that noise its fine...thinking might be the idler pulley as it sounds similar to one i had go on a mazda before but im not complaining at £200.
