Think this is right.
Hydropneumatic Citroens that were bought 'by accident' are probably going to perish pretty quickly, as owners discover that (a) they don't begin to understand how the car works, and (b) they get an on-going series of repair bills for something they thought would never need much attention (the suspension).
When the ride deteriorates, and especially if the car has been bought used and cheaply, it may well be left like that. I've got used to seeing tatty Xantias down here obviously being driven with flat spheres. If it wasn't for generally very good Spanish tarmac, this would be intolerable. Citroen also realise this isn't the best advert for their cars.
Then there's the Citroeniste/enthusiast - which is where the remaining hpn cars will end up. In the case of the XM, this has probably happened already, like all those classic hpn cars that preceded.

And Sainsbury's have just bought Homebase (which they used to own, iirc).

A lot of the smaller B&Q's around the UK are closing Jim. Apparently they are not doing well despite people always being in the stores. 5 small B&Q stores in a 20 mile radius of me are closing next month... The closures have been planned for over a year as the checkout staff informed me of it nearly a year ago!

I'm even more shocked now! I must admit to not following the news these days so all this has blissfully passed me by...
I personally hate DIY shops with a passion and only go to them if I really have no option... The combination of the wood dust, garden chemicals and paint fumes in them make me quite ill... Three things that I'm badly allergic to...
So I won't be shedding any tears, except for the staff who have lost their jobs...

The fact that Sainsbury's have bought Homebase makes me wonder how Argos is doing? When I worked for Wincor Nixdorf (in the EPoS support) one of our clients was the Home Retail Group. This consisted of Argos and Homebase at that time.

Sainsbury's have bought Argos too, iirc - but check this out. What they wanted was to merge the warehousing and distribution networks.

Saves a lot of money and makes the new group more streamlined and profitable.

Re: how common are Xm's
The Cardigan store has only been open a couple of years and that is closing too - they are not losing money - just not making enough according to the staff there when I asked why. It seems they are closing the least profitable stores. To be honest, as somebody who goes there for odds and sods over the years, I have to say the quality has gone downhill bigtime. I'll put this down to Chinese goods and inferior quality. You just have to read the reviews from Trustpilot (don't bother with B&Q's or DIY.COM as they are now of course) own customer reviews, as they don't allow negative or critical reviews - you can't post them - as I can attest too personally).CitroJim wrote:I'm even more shocked now! Light bulbs that last for a few weeks, cheap thin metals on the lighting (that fall apart) warped doors etc. I suppose it's a sign of the times and I doubt if they are unique in this matter either!

DIY super stores "own brands" = rush to the bottom end of quality (because a lot buy the crap)
Yeh, we all know that mild steel uncoated screws supplied last really well when fencing as do the mild steel uncoated staples fired through the feather board with such force the thing cuts in 80% of the thickness ! It was a pain to do but back it went
