Re: V6 MPG

Post by fatherjack2002 »

Thanks for all the replies and feedback from this thread, i should elaborate that my Xant V6 isn't my daily driver, this is my "weekend car" having covered around 2.5k in the last 6months i feel i can afford the low mpg in return for the smile it puts on my face every time i drive it :) :) :) ( i do have a "Road Angel" on the dash that keeps my right foot in check when necessary    )
My daily driver is a Renault Master, and my other half has a C5 hdi, at least we're flying the flag for French motoring, however economical or not it maybe :) :) :)
Regarding the "lowest mpg" suggestion, may i start this with an old Rover P5B, 3.5 V8 i used to own in the early 80's while working as a joiner in Newcastle, my round trip to work and back was around 8miles and it "drank" most of this per day, i was never in a financial position it fill it up, but estimated it did around 10 mpg,

Cheers for now Paul

Lowest mpg was a Ford Granada Scorpio 2.8i 4x4 manual which was around the 14/16mpg mark .

I managed a stunning 14mpg from a Saab 900T16 over a full tank, non-stop when my pregnant missus was taken ill and I was 240 miles away..

I take it you hit 70MPH a few times?

EDIT; Typo. Should have read 170MPH.

Those saabs guzzle it, the only reason I walked away from a stunning 900 was that I struggled to get double figure mpg out of it on a test drive. It was only a 2.3 4cylinder turbo! Incredible fun though it accelerated like Saturn Vs little brother.

I did learn that the C900 T16 gets *very* light at the front end .. "at speed"

I wonder how far a stock C900 T16 will jump?

Mine had a 3" exhaust, hybrid turbo, big injectors and a modified APC. It was rolling roaded at 221bhp. It was a 5 door LPT shell with all the bits from a written off Ruby transplanted into it, with suspension, brakes etc all upgraded to suit and 16" aero alloys. It went like a bat out of hell if you drove round the lag!

My Dad averaged 18 from a 1.8 8V Xantia towing his caravan from Portsmouth to Kendal when they moved house. He recently went to Canada and hired a motorohome - 6.5l V10 petrol coupled to a 3 speed (!!) auto box only managed 12 mpg despite not trying that hard - and it was awful to drive by all accounts.

I have the use, when I wish, of a Landrover 101 FC military ambulance that's now a camper.

It's powered by a Rover V8. It weighs 3.1 tonnes. It has low ratios and 4WD. It's the shape of a brick.

10mpg on a run is about as much as it gets. Less around town! Good job it's on LPG, which works out at the same cost as 16mpg eh?

I used to tow a biggish caravan with a Nissan Serena..

I never did record it but you could literally see the fuel gauge needle falling....
