DISPATCH 2.0 HDi immobiliser problem

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

I have a friend who has a Citroen DISPATCH 2.0 HDi make year 2006. The engine wont start. I hooked a Lexia and wasn't able to communicate with the CPH. We switched the CPH and the ignition key with ones that we detached from a wracked Dispatch. Now the Lexia can communicate with the CPH, but the engine wont start. BTW with the new set the remote lock/unlock of the doors does work. In trying to track down the problem via the Lexia in the CPH actuator test I can lock/unlock hearing the CPH relay click. When starting the ignition no click is sound. I have the following questions:

1) When turn the ignition switch does this CPH relay should click
2) Is that CPH relay when clicking means that the immobilizer was successfully authenticates ?
3) Is the engine ECU part of the immobilizer authentication circuit ? i.e. does the engine ECU has a unique I.D. that is compared with the CPH immobilizer I.D. and the RF I.D. chip that resides on the blade of the ignition key ?

Thanks
Zohar

Yes the Engine ECU, CPH & key are all a matched set so the van will never start unless you also change the engine ECU from the same car.

Can the immobilizer be bypassed permanently even with soldering some wires on the CPH , or the engine ECU ?

Thanks

Citroen Dispatch - Bypass faulty immobilizer

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

Is there a way to bypass a faulty immobilizer. I found out the original CPH is faulty. I got a CPH and ignition key from a wracked Dispatch, but I found out that I need also the ECU that was missing in the wracked car. Is there a way to cancel / bypass the immobilizer system ? I guess it will involved with some wring on the CPH .

Thanks
Zohar

You haven't provided any details - year, model, VIN, so without that, can't really help as we are not mind readers!

As we don't know if you have one of the older systems with keypad immobiliser or a later system, can't really advise - bit if newer, you can't bypass these as the BSI and the Engine ECU are coded. Short of a new BSI (that you only get one attempt to code) most people have had to get a matched set of BSI, Engine ECU and keys that contain the immobiliser transponder chip in - these all need to be from the same donor vehicle or it won't start.

However, are you sure it is the immobiliser? Have a look at this post - turned out to be the fuel filter:

If you provide some further information (VIN is better) we may be able to help further

Yes it is an 2006 with no key pad bellow is the VIN number

VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

As the oid CPH was faulty, can not communicates with a Lexia it is probably the immobilizer system. When installed the other CPH I can communicate with it. It looks like someone tried to bypass the immobilizer with the old CPH. There were two wired soldered to the Tyco relay and they were hooked to a wire that is on the black connector that is plugged onto the CPH. Do you know how the CPH signals to the engine ECU that all is OK with the immobilizer system ? Is it a voltage level on one of the connector pins that is hooked to the CPH ? I think this is the reason for the relay on the CPH ?

Is this is the correct flow chart:

1) CPH reads the immobilizer RF ID chip on the key and check that it is the correct one
2) CPH communicates with the engine ECU and gest it's ID and check that it is the correct one
3) Only if the key and engine ECU IDs are OK the engine ECU gets an approval to start the engine

Relating to step 3 ( assuming the above flow char is correct ) is the CPH send over the CAN bas a message or it is just a voltage level one on the CPH connector that is changes, the engine ECU monitors this voltage and if it is OK the ECU start the engine ? If not what is the function of the relay on the CPH

Thanks

Zohar - Send me a Private Message with an email address so I can send you what I have on this (don't put your email here). I have the info with the parts involved - but not a lot else. I did manage to find a video (in French) on a bypass - but not sure if this will help you or not:

Hi Marc

I sent you a pm with my email. As for the video I have seen it and with my poor French I understood that it is a procedure to bypass a keypad fault using the acceleration pedal

The YouTube video is for a relay/jumper which uses a Fiat based immobiliser system, it is only a one off bypass that you have to do each time. You can't do this with a dispatch as its a PSA based system.

Thanks Wheeler - I've got the VIN now which confirms as Jumpy I / II Type 800 Side Window Van - confusion as OP stated Dispatch in Topic Heading, before VIN was sent!

It should be possible to unlock the immo completely from the engine ECU with some programming.

Are all RHD vans called Dispatch/Relay? LHD in Israel with Dispatch badges?

Is that programming can be done by using a Lexia ? No in Israel it is called Citroen Jumpy, but when I entered the VIN in Citroen service it recognize it as Dispatch .

You can't remove the immobiliser or change the immobiliser code in a used control unit with Lexia.
As far as I know it can be done with other specialist equipment, but not a simple plug into the OBD port, it involves opening the ECU's & reprograming eprom chips.
