You can be sure, but I don't want to argue here about it ... whoever has the means (Lexia/DiagBox), can confirm the linearity of the visual representation and the actual values returned for themselves ... or live in misinformation ... Remember the Morris 1000 and the basic Mini: Speedo, fuel gauge, and three indicator lights (IGN, oil pressure, turn).jgra1 wrote:..a green thing. It has no temp gauge of any sort! It's actually bliss not knowing anything
Renault Twingo (sadly never available in RHD) revived that, with its one huge digital speedo display. Lovely.
Do like the classic British dash though - full set of circular dials, white on black, as per Rover, Jaguar, Triumph, MG, Bristol and even the S2 XM. Jaeger produced some great instrumentation.

My C1 is much the same. One big round dial with the fuel gauge and a few warning lights inside it. Brilliantly simple.white exec wrote:Remember the Morris 1000 and the basic Mini: Speedo, fuel gauge, and three indicator lights (IGN, oil pressure, turn).jgra1 wrote:..a green thing. Maybe those of us with Lexia/Diagbox capabilities. But for the man in the street? As was pointed out earlier it's all part of the dumbing down of information. As I said you have to trust the designer of the instruments that the reading actually has a proper meaning.vborovic wrote:You can be sure, but I don't want to argue here about it ... whoever has the means (Lexia/DiagBox), can confirm the linearity of the visual representation and the actual values returned for themselves ... or live in misinformation ... Re: Coolant temp vs Oil temp
I would have expected it to be driven to the middle for 'normal' temperature, that's what drivers expect / want to see. I'd be checking the actual temp with Lexia, and working on the assumption it needs a new stat....

Too bad I don't have a friend nearby who could run some diagnostics as I would need to go to the local dealer/service for a check
Re: Coolant temp vs Oil temp
I have to have a gauge, family have had a couple of cars without one. They all had an overheat warning light but no underheat light to indicate such things as a worn thermostat. There probably isn't a need for oil temp but I keep an eye on it and in hilly North Wales sometimes it gives me good reason to slow down a bit up the hills. I like gauges though, I'd add oil pressure, turbo pressure and maybe some others quite fast if they wouldn't ruin the standard look of the car.

Our old Slurry Skipping Kia has no gauge, it does have a blue light/no light/red light system. It restricts revs until the blue goes out.

Blue light sounds good, thats my major gripe with gaugeless cars, even the Astons only had an overheat light when they went gauge less for a while.

With LCD screens now pretty much standard, why not Full AndroDiags?

Re: Coolant temp vs Oil temp
May be comparing apples and oranges but on my analogue gauges the water temperature rises fairly quickly but the oil lags quite noticeably.
I had to check this morning as it is rather seldom that I look at them, same with the oil gauge. Just keep fingers crossed mainly.

Re: Coolant temp vs Oil temp
I find that on my C5 the coolant gets warm way before the oil temperature starts to move.

My Xantias the same with coolant warming over a few minutes and oil taking over 10 usually.

Re: Coolant temp vs Oil temp
I would not say it is a problem. On my C5 the coolant warms up faster, but when things stabilise they are both around the same temperature (depending on my driving). Remember, due to the cooling fans the coolant temperature can change faster and through a wider range then the oil temperature.
