C3 track control arm

Post by avin44 »

I may have to change the track control arms on my 2007 C3 but the nuts securing it are not the standard type for a normal socket, does anyone know what the proper name for this type of nut is ?, and can they be bought from somewhere like Halfords ?. any advice on this would be appreciated.

These beauties are really tight to remove - many have broken their torx bits trying to remove them and they require a 22mm 12 point socket.
Here's a link to the C3 owner Forum explaining this with part numbers:

Thanks for the info, very useful but a bit worrying at the same time seeing how difficult they are to get off but here's hoping, I will let you all know how I get on when the new arms arrive.

Just watch out for some of the bolts and nuts - Citroen state some of these must not be re-used (probably as a result of the effort it will take in getting them off and this could cause weakness leading to failure and could be extremely dangerous.

Here are the components concerned and the relevant table - all those with an asrterisk * are to be replaced with new bolts / nuts:

They always recommend replacement of nylock nuts as they might be less secure a second time around. However, I expect very few are replaced by independent mechs and DIYs, so there must be millons running about that have been re-used. I only fit new ones if they come with the part being changed.

Our 307 and C4 Picasso have this arrangement for the wishbones - albeit without the stupid star nuts. I've often thought that the TORX on the top looked far too weedy to get them undone, given the threaded end sticks out into the salty water spray.... Oh, and one of them is right under the drive shaft so there's no access. Not sure why the poster in that thread chopped the arm up, surely you can just cut the nut or head off the bolt?

I definitely gave up, what a pain to do, why couldn't they just fit normal bolts with heads on instead of those ridiculous star type bolts ?,
even my local garage said they were really hard to remove, the joys of French cars, come back Lada, all is forgiven.
