Just another quickie guys :-D
When replacing an airbag ECU, does it need coded via Lexia? I've read it needs initialised does that simply mean doing a BSI reset? Learning slowly here #-o

When I changed the passenger seat airbag and airbag ECU on my 2003 C5 I didn't do any recoding. It just went in. I may have cleared the fault log but that's just a normal procedure.

Tam, the airbag module itself doesn't need coding, but the CENTRAL airbag ECU contained behind the air con cover panel does seem to need configuring via internet (according to service docs) then the parameters can be set for the airbag options on the vehicle. So we may be talking different modules here. :-D

On the other matter regarding the plugs, have another check - as they should all connect up to the comms 2000 unit / airbag module - I haven't seen any where these have been left dangling! Are you sure they don't plug into the sides?

Have a look at the this post on Aussie Frogs - I think this is for a 406 - but similar.
(edit: link would help I suppose! )

Also, look at the last picture (click to open it so you can see). I note in the post
"When unit is back on the steering column connect up. Note the green airbag connector. The green part gets pushed fully into the airbag connector, then the yellow locking tab gets pushed in and this secures the connection. The blue connector is similar. If one of these isn’t in properly the dash airbag light will stay on."

Thanks again Marc, I haven't had the comms unit off just the airbag from the steering wheel. That is what the pics are showing, left hand side of airbag has the blue socket which the blue plug fits in. The right hand side doesn't have a socket but the plug you see just sat loosely in the hole you can see. I just wondered if that hole should have a socket in it for the plug to go in? Seems strange that the plug doesn't connect to anything but just sits in that R/H side hole. Thanks for your help in this mate.
The ECU i'm talking about is the one bolted to the floor behind central trim, where ashtray etc is.

Right got it, that's the central airbag ECU control unit. This is the one that potentially needs configuring, if it's going to be replaced.

I'm just waiting on a phone call to go and pick my car up from the garage, when I get back I'll have a look into the electrical diagrams just to see what the other cable is supposed to connect to!

OK, mystery solved! Just back from the dealers and been told that you can ignore the secondary connector as this is for the 2nd stage ignitor that you don't have. Your model was probably where they were doing the change over to initial and secondary stage airbag ignition - so the wiring plugs are there but the green one is superfluous. He said there should be a recess or empty area to hold the spare green connector - as you do not want this to be hanging loose and getting caught anywhere. That's saved me from looking up the electrical diagrams at least! :-D

Thanks Marc! That would make sense as why we have a spare wire. Appreciate your help as always...back to the drawing board

Just a wee post to thank everyone who helped out. I am not taking this any further as it will cost more than the car's worth. MOT is up next Feb so I will save for another Citroen. Maybe get an old ZX, had a P reg one and loved it. 1.9D which I pulled an old caravan all over with. Who knows but it will defo be a Cit.
Thanks again guys =D>

That's such a shame that you couldn't get a fix Tam. I've heard that the ZXs go on forever, much like the C15s! I knew a chap at work who had one and he finally gave it up at about 280k miles!!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Wife's car is due it's MoT and is showing this same fault.

It's definitely not the airbag as I've already replaced it.
I've got the steering column in bits and examined the wiring from the comms2000 and can't see any obvious damage, I'm just now wondering which pins to use for a continuity test.......

Any help would be fantastic

Given the dangers of 'testing' such systems, it's not something we can really give advice on. There are clear warnings about testing the systems, which I will put up though:

ESSENTIAL: For any work on fascia panel, steering column, front seats, centralised airbags and seat belts system or for any specific welding or panel-beating work: Apply the procedure to deactivate the centralised airbag and seat belt system.

CAUTION: The pre-tensioning components assembly must always be disconnected before using measuring instruments; Ohmmeter or other measuring instrument to check the electrical components and wires.

CAUTION: Any of the pyrotechnic components may be triggered if a powered measuring instrument is used for fault finding purposes on this system.

CAUTION: An ohmmeter can be used to make a resistance measurement when the checking tool (calibrated shunt) is connected to replace a pyrotechnic component
.

Best way to trouble shoot these is with Diagbox - although it doesn't always tell an understandable story!
