If you retain any affection for the "8" from your piston pulling out days you will probably enjoy this. Its an Austin 8 proving its robustness in the Lake District. How many modern cars would stand up to this trial?

A nice little film, I wonder if the same trip could still be made.

A hundred miles in six hours though............

The Injector

Image

Is there a "sealing washer" left behind in the bore for the injector?

Probably would be the answer.....if so what is the easiest way to get it out......douse in plus gas..then what?

Any assistance greatfully received

Yes, not quite the size of hole I was hoping for to do a bit of fishing with a magnet!

The injector diagram

Item 9 described as engine injector protector I haven't discovered, and another slight difference with the digram is that all injector clamps are secured with bolts rether than studs and nuts.

The little sealing ring is definitely still in the injector bore.

I think you can dislodge the sealing ring without much effort.I don't think it's magnetic though..

Sealing rings are usually (certainly used to be) copper. There is a tool available for removing stuck washers which basically fits into the centre, expands and then you can pull the washer out. You might be able to get a similar effect with large coarse screw or possible jamming a large flat screwdriver in.

Here is a tool for the job for removing injector seals left behind in the injector bores in a cylinder head. At £26 its a bit pricy for a one off job, the coarse-threaded bolt as suggested by Paul may be worth a try.

Haven't quite been able to condemn the Picasso to the scrap heap just yet. Its just so much better than the ones I have been looking at recently. So every so often I pop the bonnet up and have a poke around.

Today's poke was a 10 minute success story.....got the sealing washer out of the injector bore! Doused it with plus gas round the edges and gently tried a range of my "special tools". I read on another thread, think it was CitroenXM , but may be mistaken, who recommended an appropriate diameter cross-head screwdriver to bite into the sides of the washer and extract it. My cross head screwdrivers were too small. thought you may get the same effect from a flat head with tapered sides wedgeing into the sides....not this time.

Dug out a straight round steel rod which proved to be a reasonably tight fit diameter, poked it down and it did grip the sealing washer and out it came on the end.

The bore with the washer out is no bigger, I think any productive camera work is out. Might try some manual ejections to expel any garbage from cylinder number 4 hopefully through the injector/glow plug hole.

Never looked at telescopic magnets until 1 minute ago. Reasonably astonished that this one apparently extends to 660mm, can lift 1kg, and costs £3.40!
