Brakes

Post by daviemck2006 »

My car is in need of front brakes. The pads are nearly done, Jim says the discs would probably be ok. However I think I will replace discs also as the brakes feel funny as if the discs are slightly warped. So here are the options. Unbranded £58. Mintex £75. EBC greenstuff £98. That's for discs and pads. I'm tempted to go for the greenstuff, supposed to be good, but thinking really Mintex should be fine, stuff the cheapos. I put cheapos on the 107, but it only has 68bhp and rarely over 30 mph. What do you guys think?

I believe (but I am NOT certain) that somebody said Mintex were an OEM for Citroen, but I will NOT swear to that.

Mintex MDC869 - £42.64 on Ebay.

Free p&p ... if that's what you choose to go with.

Is that for the pads and discs? I couldn't see the right ones at that price. I saw the smaller ones for 1.8 1.9td at that but they are no use for the activa.

Thats for disks ... £12.85 for a set of Mintex MDB1854 pads.

<update ... there's MDC869s on there for £36.07 which is way better than £42.64 that i found originally sp £36.07 + £12.85 = £48.92, not bad! >

BOLD=Ebay search term.

Can't go wrong with mintex ones. It'll be worth searching by part names instead incase anyone sticks v6/activa premium on!

Get 'em shipped to me Davie and I'll fit 'em. That area of the car is already in bits anyway so it's the perfect time ;)

Did you price Mr Auto for Ferodo discs and pads? They may get to Jims in time. ACE Parts on Ebay have Mintex I think.
What do ECP have at 20% off? There is also searching the Citroen agents on Ebay for specials. Hard to beat original Cit parts.

Doubt you'll get mintex set cheaper than £48.92 delivered to Jims ...

You need to get Jim to confirm what brakes are on it before buying anything - there are several options for late mk1 Activas...!

It might, but the parts bin approach sometimes means even service.citroen doesn't know! I think the MK1s were fitted with the middle brakes rather than the largest (and best!) Bosch brakes.

I've been using Brembo pads for the last few changes on my cars, they're very good and available for reasonable money from here: http://www.nextdaybrakes.com/

It's the 283 mm discs on it. I have asked him. There's also 288mm discs on v6 and 264mm I think on the lower power ones. Mintex or ferrodo are usually what I go for. Spending extra on the EBC greenstuff pads won't be worth the extra then. Right, off on a trawl of eBay I go, see what I can get bought from my address and delivered to Jim's.

266 on hdi90 and most early smaller engined cars (and the td suprisingly) pretty much everything else got 283 after that! 288 on v6 and hdi110 i think, then obviously certain others.

Servicebox is usually spot on if you use a vin, mine by year should be just nipping on the heels of 15" wheels and bigger brakes but had 14" and 266mm!
