Water in Diesel filter?

Post by aerodynamica »

Hi all, a yellow warning lamp appeared today in the Xantia 1.9TD

Image

Strangely it isn't actually mentioned in the owner's manual :-D but I think it is something to do with water or sediment in the base of the diesel filter housing. I recall my old 1.9D showed the same lamp after I started running it on Veg oil.

I drained and replaced the diesel filter and so far it has remained out. Being a yellow lamp I suppose it's not as critical as the red warnings.

Am I right that it is 'water in filter'?

As I recall these were notorious for giving spurious readings and deleted on later Xantias.
Cleaning the filter bowl would at least do no harm even if it didn't do any good :)

Haha, I wondered just how useful it was - it was internittent at first but then began showing constant. Well I'll see whether the cleaned bowl and new filter keep it off, thanks again

Clean the water in the filter annually just for being on the safe side. If the filter freezes your having a breakdown.

Yes indeed, it's best disconnected and left disconnected... In fact most are these days!

That's just to lull you into a false sense of security. :rofl2:

I think the light is only documented if you have a Handbook of the correct vintage for the car. Certainly the Green Lady's original one (1995 MY) does show it, but I later one I acquired (1998? MY) doesn't.

Seriously, they are notorious for false triggers. The Green Lady's sensor has been playing games for 9 years now, we just ignore it!
