Clutch failed

Post by shauny0305 »

Well I went to work on Wednesday and the clutch went tight (no free play) and the release brg chirping away like a budgie. I haven't got anyone local to me (Mitcham Surrey) but I do have breakdown cover. If anyone can handle this job, or recommend someone. Flying clutch man perhaps?
Luckily I don't need the car for the next 3 was as I am going on holiday next weekend, but I will need to get it to someone in the next few days.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I can't help but some more information might assist those who could.

What car? What engine? What year? How many miles?

Sorry about the lack of details. It's a hdi90 estate S2 2000 W reg with 137000 miles under its belt. It needs the fulcrum bushes to be replaced and I'd like the oil seal on the input shaft replaced .It needs someone to do a proper job .
I'd like to keep the car, it's nice and simple and with the clutch done properly it'll be better than before.

HDi 90 is not a difficult one Shaun, can you possibly do it yourself? It's as for the 1.9TD and loads of topics on here about how to do it...

Fulcrum bushes and seals a mandatory in my opinion...

Hi Jim, the timing of this is really strange. I've got a course next week, then I go on holiday Friday, for 2 wks. Then start a new job on the 11th.
The clutch actually gave up in the car park. Arriving for the interview.
If I can't find anyone reasonably local, or reasonable money, then I'll have to. Either way I'll have to get a move on, I need to go to Paris to empty a flat and bring stuff back.

Flying Clutch man is in Essex, I believe.

As I am writing this my bestie has called me
He has got someone to do it for me.
M8 rates will apply. So I'll get it all done, lower engine mount, oil seals, fork 'n' bushes, slidy guidy tuby thing and new oil. Already fitted a new cable
Fingers crossed and all that, should be lovely after all that
Regards to all Shaun

Our Green Lady has just had a new clutch etc. Got to drive her for the first time this morning - an amazing difference, the clutch is a lot lighter and as smooth as silk. Ever since we bought the car (April 2007), I've been expecting to have to change the clutch on the grounds that she had spent her life up to then in 'Home Counties' traffic.

Gearbox re-filled with the proper stuff: Total BV. Perhaps the faint whine at motorways speeds will have gone too?

Best of luck Shaun.
