I have had a bit of that on both C5s - quite alarmingly so on the first one.
In both cases injectors.
Cleaned and refurbished they run fine now.

Re: Problem ahead
On the old idi engines that's a sign of heater plugs needing replacement. Not so for modern di engines (and you've had them replaced anyway) so I would suspect injectors letting the fuel in at too low a pressure. Have you done any live reading of the injection system at all?

Re: Problem ahead
When/if I buy the works hdi, I'll swap injectors next winter and prove/disprove the old injector theory. I have 8 injectors and have changed them round to try to equalise them on the lexia. When she's warm she starts fine and the water heater makes sure she's warm when at home in the winter.

Re: Problem ahead
Just to bump this back up again. Haven't done anything yet as problem has been gone. This morning on turning ign on, I got the beep and the warning lights. Back to old symptoms of starting with a splutter and smoking . Watched my temp gauge this time and sure enough........the needle swung up to hot and then instantly back down again. IME that is faulty temp coolant sensor. New one is here so will fit ASAP when carport and shelter are available.
