It sounds as if it really did overheat then. I would guess that it was caused by an air lock or air bubble which has since been bled away.

Why the fan didn't come I don't know; you've checked that it and the resistors work separately but you now need a Lexia or Diagbox to check that the ECU can control the fan and set it spinning and this has to be your next step. Apologies if you've already done this and I've missed it.

As has been said earlier, at this time of year the fan is seldom needed anyway and if there's any problem with the A/C to prevent it turning on then that won't bring the fan on either.

As I said previously. He already mentioned that the Air con is not working, hence my suggestion to get is gassed up and then turn the AC on - which should switch the fan on.

Yes, my point was that there's nothing else to bring the fans on at this time of year.

Gassing up might be enough to get the A/C working and then test the fan that way but what if it isn't? That'd be £40 odd that, while not exactly wasted, would have been unnecessary. As I said, Lexia or Diagbox.

Agreed - the fan would not normally kick in until about 185° F - so unless it's in crawling traffic on a hot day very unlikely the fan would kick in.
If the Air Con is gassed up and the fan does not kick in straight away or shortly thereafter, then we need to keep looking. As stated a diagnostic is a good place to start - I doubt this video will help - as we know your fan is working when you disconnect the temp sensor - but this is where the resistors are located on a 2001 Picasso and here the bottom one was registering no Ohms on the multimetre.

No problems and no tension - as you can see there are multiple possibilities, which is why we usually recommend a Lexia diagnostic first, to help eliminate some possibilities. Let us know how it goes - as I say, I'm not sure Kwik Fit charge if they can't get is cooler - ATS did the same with me once - they said it was fine so didn't charge me - not that they advertised it! At the very least you could have your air con working again!

Yeah kwik fit say if they can't get it cooler or working then there's no charge I won't take to ats as used to work for them and their dodgy ways and I know someone in kwik fit so may get a discount lol
I'll let you know the outcome when done next weekend thanks again

I've just been out to check both our C5 and C3 that have not been started since yesterday and can confirm that as soon as the Air Con is switched on - the fan engages immediately on both cars. When I switch off the Air Con, after 2-3 minutes the fan stops on both too. On some cars there were 2 fans one for the air conditioning condenser radiator and one for the main engine rad. these were operated independently as needed - but on a lot of more modern cars there is only one larger fan to cover both. Anyway let's see what happens :-D

Yeah there's only one fan that covers both air con and cooling I know the fan works but I've managed to get some new resistors anyway as when I took one out it had plastic melted on it I got them both for £15 going to rip bumper off again in morning and fit them
