Most common problem at least here in Finland is that rear height sensor linkage gets rusty and stuck. Fortunately it's easy and cheap part to replace. This happens around 5 years age. F***king salty winter roads...

me being a bit silly last weekend..
I used a tripod for the camera, yellow line shows the beam of wood from the 'other'wheel pic in each case, superimposed on the first pic.. dunno.. silly really but was doing some (free) thinking..
interestingly, wheel camber seems to change when car goes from low to high and vice versa..

I still don't know if the rear wheel camber can be adjusted or even if its wrong..

here's something you dont see everyday ;) two! white saloons, both execs..both on 19's.. Ricks wheels are a different colour, and I think the cars are too! (about 2 years between them)

A big thanks to Rick (QPRdude) for lending me an hour of his time last weekend..
We both felt that my c5 didn't drive as well as his. although we didn't drive each others, so it wasn't as easy to tell..

One thing that was obvious, Rick's car was a good 25mm higher at the back.. the wheel arch-to-tyre distance was the same all around the arch, whereas mine isn't.. if Rick's is correct, and mine is low.. that could explain the rear camber issues i am noticing (as the camber changes depending on ride height)..
what do I do now chaps? On Xantia's , adjusting the ride height was easy enough.. I am happy to have a go on mine, marking and measuring where it is right now before I start..

Do the lexia reference heights mean much to anyone? do we know the correct height for these cars anywhere?

any thouhgts most welcome,
John

edit.. did a google search and came across this FCF thread.. will read on......

There is a Carlos Fandango  procedure documented for calculating the height references and these are entered into the parameters in Diagbox - but I don't think they correspond to the reference figures that are there already. They do state where and how to measure these and the calculations - I'll have to try and dig it out as it was buried amongst some other suspension info I was looking at for another member. I'm off to the Dealer now for a test run, but will take a look when I get back after lunch and see if I can find it for you John. :-D
Edit - Yep - I knew it was mentioned somewhere on the thread - but VAB's links have probably expired or he's taken them off now - so I'll dig them up and send them to you via a PDF - just drop me a PM with an email address John.

thanks Marc :)
I think I have seen that calcualtion system now ! :P

the link I sent links to a C6 posting with this info, and a Lexia screen shot.. assuming my diagbox will show similar info?
out of interest.. does your rear wheel look like it sits in the arch equally?

edit

pm sent ;)

I'm on my way back now, I'll take a pic of my car from the side for you to see as I haven't really got anything to compare it with. I can also supply my suspension values as recorded in Diadbox too if that helps?

Should have had you drive mine, sorry, silly mistake John. I was really hoping that the comparison would be decisive and point to something obvious. Still, good to see the cars side by side, and such nice cars too! Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the suspension. Off to Aberdeen soon so I will be trying my hardest to keep the speed down this time and see what MPG I can achieve. (to be honest, I can't really see me lasting at 60 mph much past Beaconsfield, probably not even as far as the M40.)
Rick.

OT regarding license plates, as perfectly show like this side by side on the photos ... in the UK you can have the plates drilled and bolted directly to the bumper, without the outer plate shell?

All car's imported from Germany seem to have these. In Finland you can just bolt on directly. Don't know if this is compulsory in some countries.

Many are stuck on with adhesive pads so that if they are pulled off they are damaged, this prevents theft of the plates. It seems like a common practice to use these types of pads and has the advantage that a hole is not drilled preventing de-lamination

We can't do bolting here ... I mean, you can, but the police can pull you over and write you a fine for that ...
