Source for Heater panel Bulbs

Post by Stickyfinger »

About to take it all apart to fix the broken bulbs, does anybody have a source for the correct bulbs in the heater panel ?

Any good guides for their replacement, I understand the unit needs to come out/taken apart. ?

Kind of you Jim but I want to get on with the job and have a couple of spare ones on the shelf as well. If I cannot find them I may ask you to post them :)

That said it looks like a pig of a job with my big hands so may be a good thing to wait and time it for your arrival, I am sure you can just go flick flick and the heater control is apart. (? Does it need to come apart ?)

No worries Alasdair, these are the little babies you need:

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/R509TM ... Black.html

It's not hard to swap them, just slip out the wireless, set the heater sliders roughly half-way, pop the lid off of the heater control box (now exposed after removing the wireless) and gently ease out the bulb-holder... It's like an L-shaped ladder with the two bulbs attached...

It's a bit easier with girly fingers so if you do want to wait, I'll be happy to do the job for you..

Can't post anything except on Wednesdays...

Many years ago whilst doing a similar job on one of my Xants, I think I used a small sized deep socket onto the back of the lamps to make them easier to fit. Girly hands I ain't got ! :-D

I don't suppose anybody could tell me how to replace the cigarette lighter bulb on my MK1 C5?

If the panel lamp bulbs are anything like the ones on the Xsara and C5 then the plastic part is just a holder. The actual bulb is a capless 286 and is cheaper. I've never bought anything other than the capless bulbs.

These are they at the same place although they do seem to be expensive. I think I paid about £4 - £5 at one of my local motor factors.

EDIT

These are a better price.

On the Xantia the bulbs are captive, in a very short holder, due to the minimal space in the heater control area.

The photo in the link doesn't look like a short bulb in the holder. Have you ever tried to pull one apart?

The ones I've seen have the wire ends of the bulb welded to the black cap - unlike the instrument bulbs...

... And therefore capless wire-ended bulbs, even if of the correct physical dimensions, cannot be used..

I know as I have tried in the past...
