I've got the chance of buying the works Xantia estate, exactly the same as mine but W reg and in Dark Blue but only 36,000 miles, serviced once a year Thats the good points. The bad points are it only does 150 miles a year has faded paintwork but original where the company decals and magnetic radio aerials were. Holes in the facia where the radiios were mounted, the usual torn drivers seat and the tailgate doesn't open and the boot has mould due to the water sitting in the boot area. I'm thinking she's going to cost me a few hundred to replace all the suspension pipes, the facia and the seat cover. not sure if the aircon works and the suspension is a bit sticky and needs a bit of tlc.
I had a check on buymycar and they offered about £500 in perfect condition and I've checked on Fleabay and averaged out the last 20 Xantia sold at £195
What would you offer?

£100-£200 based on general rust/pipe leaks and the state of the rear of the sills.

I am still amazed at the used Citroen's prices in the UK ... over here, the equivalent Xantia would be approx. 700 EUR (roughly 480 GBP) ... and higher ...

Re: What would you pay
Scrap value and not a penny more! The 36,000 miles is totally irrelevant. In fact, this sounds like a great example of why low mileage cars should be avoided quite often - standing around, not moving, in the damp and cold doesn't do them any good at all.c.morewood wrote:I've got the chance of buying the works Xantia estate, exactly the same as mine but W reg and in Dark Blue but only 36,000 miles, serviced once a year Thats the good points. Probably needs a full set of spheres, a set of tyres, aircon cleaning and regassing, height correctors removing, cleaning, lubing, new pipework. Is it worth it?

I flew 700 kilometres to buy a 1995 Xantia with 130k on the clock and paid the equivalent of 1600 Euro. (65000 Baht)vborovic wrote:I am still amazed at the used Citroen's prices in the UK ... over here, the equivalent Xantia would be approx. 700 EUR (roughly 480 GBP) ... and higher ...
Everyone who has seen the car congratulates me on having found such a tremendous bargian. Not just the overall good condition of the car but the exceedingly low price!
Cars in Thailand hold their values extremely well..................

Re: What would you pay
Hi Chris, I would say Scrap Value and that's it. £100 max at current steel prices. Does it have an MOT? You will be spending £100's on it plus the labour rate equivalent of the time you are spending, which to most "ordinary punters" would rule the car out as a scrapper! We as Citroen enthusiasts often overlook the fact that to most people looking in from the outside, they are worthless over complicated money pits, unless they have the glam or cute factor of a DS (old version) SM, Traction or 2CV!!!

Re: What would you pay
In the currently described condition, the low mileage is at best irrelevant to anyone in the know and in reality bad news for a 16+ yo car. If it could be restored to a working and cosmetic condition that is in keeping with a 36k car then you might pull some of your input back but from what you say there's a lot of work in there including a respray. Unless, or even if, you are doing it for and by yourself I can see costs heading into the £1,000s for a car that's going to be worth a few hundred.

Chris,
if you buy it I have plenty of spares on mine including loads of new pipework which you could have at a reasonable price.
It looks like e bay would be next but it's there if you require it.
If you have the room I could drive it up and you use it as donor car.

Re: What would you pay
Its a 2000 110 Hdi estate. Its very tempting Kenny and I'll probably kick myself for saying no, but the wife would kill me if I were caught disassembling a car on the drive!!
The only reason I'm considering buying the blue one is that its exactly the same (other than the colour)as mine down to the C5 sized pipe ends. and I know what I'm doing with most of the things that can go wrong. Thanks, in no small way to this forum. You guys have been invaluable and kept the silver one on the road when alone, I would have given up.

Re: What would you pay
Chris,
Mine also has the C5 fittings on the rear suspension.
If you do need some of the pipes I've recently fitted. They will come off easily.
I'm sure the hydraulic pump is the same on 90 hp and 110 hp. If not it is the size of the pulley but the rest of the pump is the same.

Re: What would you pay
Ebay is the best guide for 'real world' prices, there worth what someone is prepared to pay which would probably very little if it needs attention in spite of the low mileage.

I would say the average of the lowest 3 ebay prices you find is closest to "real world" ones.

Re: What would you pay
Look for one in similar condition, put a short cut on your desktop and wait until its sold. That's as near as you will get. List two or three if they are there just for comparison.
