Garage says the alternator belt is cracking and needs replaced on our C4 . They also say the clutch hydrolics pipe is corroded and may need work done.
A. How simple to change belt?
B/. Clutch, as soon as I hear that word I think big job. Would it be.
Big job equals expensive. Just wondering if worthwhile.
Diesel 2006 car (I think)

Re: C4 advice.
the drive belt is about half an hours labour normally but you don't say what engine you have, if there is doubt about the belt change it, worst case scenario when the alternator belt goes it can wrap round the crank pulley & take the timing belt out which is even bigger £££.
Cant think of the clutch pipe you mean but the pipework is all external meaning no gearbox out to sort it.

Re: C4 advice.
The car is a c4 sx hdi 1560cc.
They said the "clutch hydraulic pipe is corroded" that's all.
Just found out the car is out of MOT. Looks like the other half is gonna be taking the bus tomorrow. Will get the belt changed at same time and find out the price for the pipe.

Here's some info about the clutch pipe (albeit for a 2.0 HDi): http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=53894
The pipe appears to be about £35 - there are a few variants, if you get the VIN number I can look up the proper one.
