Thats what happens when you mess with things

Post by sooty »

I was adjusting the boost pressure on the turbo and guess what happen.
As I was removing the U-clip off the rod with a pair of long nose pliers, the clip decided to take a flight into the unknown.
I searched in all the nooks and etc. and could not find it, after searching for half hour. I had to find some heavy wire and wrap it around the pin and twist it to secure the rod.
Any Ideas where to get a replacement clip ??

hi sooty
you don't want to hold it on with wire as when the wastegate opens and closes it will break it then the actuator falls off the wastegate and the turbo doesn't produce boost wastegate allways open
a quick fix is get a thin washer that just fits over the pin where the clip used to fit then bend it with a pair of pliers slightly u shaped so it doesn't come off, this will last for ages
did it myself as an emergency and forgot about it, 2 years later when i changed the turbo it was still there

Your turbo is a garret right ?
The clip is only a "c" clip which is available from lots of hardware type shops. Where I am, in the west midlands, we have a chain of hardware shops called "Hughes and Holmes". They stock all kinds of fixings. They'd have one I'm sure.
Have you tried Screw fix Direct. Or, just search the net for fastener suppliers.
What about trying a Citroen Dealer. The Garret Turbo is common. You should find a clip no problem.
Try searching for Turbo specialists in the uk. ring one up and he'll tell you where to get a clip.

many small motor factors keep a supply of all sorts of strange fixing, 'O' rings and so on. They seem to be supplied to the trade in boxes of all sizes and they will sell them individually at low prices.
Alternatively Machine Mart now do assortment boxex of several types of fastening as well as springs and 'O' rings.
