1.9TD cold start
hola , checked my cold start cable this morning (bosch pump) and at minus 3 it was slack? what do I need to check to get it working again?

Probably a new one. You could try taking up the slack, but you'll most likely find it's on all the time afterwards.

aha - located it - the vacuum is working , but the cable is not being pulled tight enough to operate the fast idle - too much slack in the cable.

oh bugger - whilst turning the adjustment screw I slackened not tightened - and its slipped off ! argh - does anyone have the route the cable goes on the back of the bosch fuel pump

sorted but , when I push the fast idle as if the cable is taut - the revs drop - is that right?

IIRC, that is normal, yes. If you look at the two idle settings arrangement, they're connected by a lever (think rocker switch) where either one side (cold-idle) or the other (normal-idle) is in effect. At rest and without counter force, the pump's springs tension ensure the cold-start is always "default" and requires a force to pull back the lever to the normal-idle setting which is the job of the cable and it's attached device (be it a waxstat - early models, or solenoid - later models) via a vaccuum force as the engine warms up.Harlequin wrote:sorted but , when I push the fast idle as if the cable is taut - the revs drop - is that right?

reconnected a loose vacuum pipe but even wound all the way tight there appears to be a lot of slack in the cable

If the cable isn't being operated when the engine warms up, check the vacuum supply. The vacuum pump is on the end of the camshaft, feeds into two solenoids on the bulkhead.

i think it is being operated - its just even wound all the way tight , the cable has a lot of slack.
can I fit a shim or spacer to give it less slack?
