and, having removed the switch from the dash am I missing a trick in not at first atempt being able to separate front moving part from the body?

Forgive all these questions. I haven't done this sort of thing for 30 odd years, I have usually caused others to do it for me.
But now I'm older (not much wiser) and a little more impoverished!

Unfortunately I don't have a Xantia switch here to practice on, and I haven't had one apart for 5 years, but the moving part of the switch just pulls out, but I am not sure whether a small blade can be used to deform it to make it easier to get past the catch that holds it in.

Yes, I think that must be it!
There is a slot each side of the body with a small 'catch. I' ll be getting a narrow blade down each side later today.
