Diagbox and Lexia 3

Post by Wiltrac »

I've got hold of a Lexia clone diagnostic reader with leads and software, but I'm facing some problem getting the software to install properly.

Can I install Lexia as a standalone pice of software, or do I have to install Diagbox for it to work properly, for use with a 2005 C4 VTS?

I'm trying to install on a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit, but once Diagbox has installed, it won't accept the code I was provided with and reverts to the error code '0' failure and won't progress to install Lexia or PP2000.

If I try and install Lexia on its own, using instlex3, I get an error message saying that c/: New cannot be found??, but the install does go ahead, and the yellow desktop icon for Lexia is installed, but when I double click it to start, it just disappears and nothing else happens.

This is driving me nuts, does anyone know what I can do to get this working?

If you got a package containing DiagBox, probably Lexia won't be available as a standalone app, since it gets launched from within DiagBox ... you'd need to obtain/download a stand-alone Lexia installation ... just to ask, where exactly do you input this code, in which installation phase?

The screen that I get to for Diagbox installation tells me to activate.

I get three options;

A red X
Auto activation
Manual activation

I select manual, which takes me to a screen to enter a code.

The code I was given was 7 digits (1234567)

I add that to the field (which was already populated by two X's, which I deleted) and hit the green tick box.

It then comes back with a failure to activate message, error code '0'.

I turned the Internet off my laptop. I'm using a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit..

Does it ask you something like a profile name, step or two before code entering?

No, I install:

Then this:

So I add the 7 digit code provided with the kit, and get this every time:

I have an old XP machine but it's well past its best, the info I got with this kit state that Win 7 32bit is compatible, I'm not too sure where to go with it now TBH.

I suspect you have got your kit from a Chinese supplier and support isn't very good. As said already Diagbox is the interface for Lexia and the Peugeot PP2000 software. If your car is older than 2006 it will likely launch the raw Lexia App anyway. Getting back to the installation, that code seems quite old now and may have been cancelled. I think you need to start again by ensuring you have fully removed any previous installations AND directories created by previous installs. Reboot your PC. You haven't said anything about the media or package you had as normally this software is in an ISO format mounted on a virtual disk drive and installed from there. I assume you have Version 7.02? Get a coffee and have a look at this link:
http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/d ... 234403.cfm
Half way down the page you will see an installation guide and a video with clear instructions.
You should ensure your network adapter is enabled BUT make sure when you are ready to install that you disconnect from your network so it can't activate over the Internet. Follow the instructions and you should be ok. :-D

One other thing, some of these Lexia kits offered for sale won't work with the Citroen C5 and some other Peugeot models as the units they sell have the older firmware and hardware in. There are a few sellers who state this but I suspect a lot won't. If you can't get this working and you recently bought it, send it back for a refund. I'm typing this on my phone so I can't see where you are based, but if in the UK you have the distance selling regulations to cover you and if you bought it via credit card you should be able to get a refund from them. Hopefully it won't come to that, but time is important to establish if it's old kit so you can send it back!

Thanks for the info and link above. I think I realised where I was going wrong. I was using a usb hard drive with a fresh install on Windows 7 32bit. I think the fact that it was a USB drive was the actual problem.

Funnily enough, I tried to install it straight to my windows 10 laptop and it worked no problem, I'm just updating now to Diagbox 7.66, all seems to be working fine so far, which is a bit bizarre as I thought Windows 10 was a big no no.

I think the kit I've got is one of the better ones from a UK supplier with software up to 7.77, and a more up to date chip set on the cards apparently. The number on the unit is revision 9780.Z5.

I'll see what happens tomorrow when I connect it up to the car, but seems to be working ok, for now...!

Ok before you get too exited :-D Windows 10 won't work. It will seem to install, that's not the problem it's the drivers for the Lexia. It won't work as Windows 10 needs specific qualified drivers which are not available for the hardware so it won't work when you plug the interface in later!

Windows 7 is fine 32 bit best for compatibility. There's even a warning on the software ticker to not upgrade to Windows 10, so don't waste anymore time on this.

Well, I thought I'd plug it all in to see if it works ok, and it does! I've just cleared some faults from the car, mainly to understand why the parking system is faulty. I've cleared 9 faults on the parking system, and it's come back with one issue on the left rear parking sensor, so I'll get another one ordered for that.

I've also found a few other faults but I don't really know what they are for so I'll need to leave those and do some more reading.

But on the whole, it's worked absolutely fine on Windows 10 this morning...!

OK - glad you have got somewhere with it. There can be an infinite number of issues with installing Diagbox - (as you know) and Windows 10 has its own issues. Many of the problems have come from those with 32 bit OS versions on the PCs and then upgrading to Windows 10 64Bit resulting in failures. Also it has been reported that it won't work on pre-CAN vehicles. Much depends on the hardware and revision of the lexia kit and the version of Diagbox, and how the PC boot setup is configured. I think they have put a blanket 'don't install on Windows 10' as they don't want to spend time dealing with the myriad of issues people of already had. Actia probably won't be supporting further V7 releases as the move to the V8 platform takes place. At least you can save the chill pill now!

Marc, I don't know where you got the info, but there is no way to upgrade a 32-bit to the 64-bit, same OS, or newer OS ... the clean install is the only way possible ... The only issue was with the 64-bit OS-es, since they rarely have functional drivers for the XSA reader tool, and it was either going to the 32-bit OS; or installing a virtual machine

Yes, I meant the issue with those that had the 32 Bit older OS installed that upgrade (via clean install) to 64 Bit. I didn't make it clear that you have to clean install. And again, if you need pre-CAN vehicles 64 Bit is a no go
