New cambelt...engine clatter...check pump timing?

Post by Jaf »

Hi folks. Just finished cambelt/ tensioners/ water pump/ cam and crank seals. First one on this car. Engine was pinned, followed Haynes and threads here. Starts fine, revs fine, only drove literally round the block. But...she sounds more clattery. So am wondering if it's normal to check pump timing? Or should I pull her apart again, could I be a tooth out?

Thanks!

Jaf,

On the TD's it is very easy to get 1 tooth out hence the noise. It's a case of doing all over again. I had this prolem before and started again and got it right no noise or clatter.

Just to say...took her apart. Checked and yes it was a tooth out! Don't know how, checked and re-checked. Anyway sounds fine now.

Got to find the fuel leak and then off for Spanish MOT.

Thanks again.

Oh yeah meant to say...don't start the engine without the crank pulley on!!! The belt tried to come off in less than 30 secs!!!
