Xantia Interior lights
Seasons greetings all!
The passenger side interior lamp on the Athena appears to have failed, can I replace with led bulbs as the light they emit is a bit rubbish!
My car has the delayed extinction function which fades out and I'm not sure is that's compatable with LEDs.
Thanks

Re: Xantia Interior lights
I have replaced mine with LED's, and it works just fine. The dimming is a little more on/off, because the diode will turn completely off when the voltage drops below Vf.
Light output is much better then the standard bulbs.
I can take a picture of them later, if you wish.

Re: Xantia Interior lights
I recently had a similar problem with the Xantia internal lights. The bulb holder has face contacts that should be held firmly against the brass pads by a bayonet arrangement moulded on the plastic parts. Unfortunately the plastic had become brittle, and the pips had crumbled away.
A “temporary” repair was surprisingly easy. Remove the complete light from the car, then bend the fingers on the bulb holder so that they now make contact with the brass strips inside the hole rather than on the face. This does mean that you are using the “wrong” side of the contact fingers, but it works fine.
Assembly does need careful manipulation with a fine screwdriver or a needle to get both sides in place, and the bulb holder then needs to be tied down with fine string or thread, but so far the lights have been totally reliable.

Re: Xantia Interior lights
Can't fit any brighter non-led bulbs in? Have to admit the lights are crap standard, even the map lights.

You could possible get trouble with the extra heat, with a more powerful bulb.chinkostu wrote:Can't fit any brighter non-led bulbs in?

Re: Xantia Interior lights
Just to add, i found led ones in halfrauds, marked as "ambient lighting white led interior light upgrade", 9.99 for two. Bit steep, but the bulbs have a plastic dome/face over the top that seems to spread the light better. Dimming almost works with them to a point, but as said it is more on/off rather than fading out after that!
Wether they give out more light though, have to find out in the dark!

Re: Xantia Interior lights
I put the multiple small led lights in mine, brighter in the top ones and normal brightness in the under dash ones, they were spot on for a while, now they prefer to work in a somewhat disco fashion when they Do come on! In fairness, they were not working before so it is an improvement! The boot light works perfectly during the day, as soon as it would be actually useful in the dark, it stops!

Not so! Ordinary (incandescent) bulbs produce around 80% heat and 20% light; including their control circuit, LEDs produce around 90% light and 10% heat. The actual LED is something like 98% efficient in converting electricity to light. This is why LEDs are now rapidly replacing both incandescent and flourescent lights for most applications.Carsten S wrote:You could possible get trouble with the extra heat, with a more powerful bulb.chinkostu wrote:Can't fit any brighter non-led bulbs in?
BTW, I have some spare S1 Xantia interior lights if anyone wants them.

Re: Xantia Interior lights
Second that! I also just replaced the Xantia interior lights with LEDs and they are seemingly double the brightness. I now have a well - illuminated interior. I replaced the map reading lights with incandescent bulbs but those of a higher output as the LEDs seemed to be a mis match to the fitting of the map lights.
And the LEDs seem to work with the delayed fade to an extent inasmuch as they stay lit, fade a bit then simply go off.
Get LEDs - it'll change your life

I don't know if we have a language barrier here, (english isn't my native, sorry) - But he asks for brighter non-leds ie. incandescent. Thats what i weighted my answer against.Old-Guy wrote:Not so! As I read it; He wants a ie. 10W bulb in there instead of the original 5W. And that could give trouble with heat IMO.
