Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
Hi,
I have a Xantia HDi from 2001. Last week I changed on both wheels the bal joints and rod ends, CV joint, bakes and disks. After all was fitted I drove away. I noticed that the car started wobbling and "shaking" only when I took a right hand turn by speeds of 40mph and more. It doesn't change if it is under load or running free.
On return to the garage and after a quick inspection they told me that this would most likely be the transmission that needs to be checked and changed (the differential?)
Does anybody have an idea before I start on the transmission/gear/clutch etc...
Could it be CV joint or perhaps driveshaft?

I would suspect the tyre, if its suffering ply separation it could be changing shape when a load is applied.

That was my first thought too Peter.

Re: Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
Thank you for the answer, Peter and Gibbo. and I will look into this
Just to be sure its wobbling and "banging"...when I was under the car in the garage the mechanic showed me that while turning the weel there is a ticking/klicking sound in the transmission.
would it then still be a tyre

Re: Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
It would be the first thing I would try as the tyre is taking the increased load when you are cornering, the only other thing that is load sensitive is the wheel bearing but if its a bad as it sounds you would be able to feel the slop in it.
I don't know quite what you men by 'it doesn't do it under load or running free' its really go to be one or the other. The only other possible suspect is the CV joint, that will make a noise if you turn sharply but the load won't affect it.

I would put the spare on. If no difference you will be pulling a driveshaft and checking carefully. A lost CV ball bearing, circlips intact, proper free movement in all planes of CV joints. Check center support bearing for fit, if noise is on that side. Wheel bearing check, then diff inspection. Could be diff pinion bearing?
Shame after your hard work.

Re: Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
I had something similar after a tyre change on my Synergie (TD) a few years back, including the ticking noise when turning one way only. Garage helpful but failed to find anything, the service manager came along and had it put up on the lift again - with me there - and didn't find anything, but by strange miracle when it came down it had fixed itself.
We wondered if getting the suspension on full droop on the lift to get the wheel off (one took a whack or two to un-corrode it) had somehow pulled the driveshaft out from the gearbox end a bit and getting it on full droop again had got to back in the right place. Never got to the bottom of it and it has never recurred.

I mean that the sound/feeling of wobbling and clunk sound are both there when cornering...it doesn't matter if the car is in gear or in neutral

Re: Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
Hi,
I changed my tyre with the spare but the state is not great...the wobbling went down but isn't completely gone. So I think that the tyre was part of the wobbling but there is still some bonking noise?

Re: Wobbling left side wheel only when turning at high speed
Hi you all,
Would like to apologise for my english...I had some "wrong" word choices apparently...But are there some other ideas for what to look next for?
Would I need to buy new tyres to see if the problem goes...or go on to investigating CV joints and the drive shaft...?
All ideas will be welcomed...

No apologies necessary essobv, we understand or will ask for clarification if needed but we can't help ourselves when faced with an amusing spelling error.essobv wrote:Hi you all,

No-one will pick on you or single you out - it happens to us all, especially Jim (the boss).
