I would say that's not bad around the lanes, I bet a good run would soon bring that up into the 40's.

ahhhhhgghrrrr

dissassterrrrrrrrr

well, maybe not.
My X7 completed its first motorway journey yesterday.. not too far, about 100 miles with some city traffic thrown in.. all fine.. (apart from dodgy handling as mentioned)

this morning, leaving for my 3 mile commute I noticed the heater wasn't getting hot like it normally does..
the coolant and engine temps were rising unusually sporadically.. but no heat inside..
eventually some heat came out.. but the long and short is the car has used its coolant.. maybe yesterday or possibly over the last week of commuting..

no signs of any leaks, or any HG issues.. but a small and continuous leak could cause this and be less visible..?
why no low-coolant warning light baffles me though.. the expansion tank and matrix to empty and still no warning..

whilst crawling to work panicking, the rear end then sunk and remains there.. the buttons work but its like a xantia with no dog-bone.. do X7's still connect to roll bar in a similar way chaps?

what a nervous nightmare commute that was... now car is at work with 40% of its coolant and the coldest night of winter, and no rear suspension.. grr

Sorry to hear this John... Just a teething issue I'm sure..

A very small leak that's no more than a pinhole can cause this and leave no trace because the lost coolant immediately vaporises...

Is this connected with the very small coolant pipe that was reported as broken earlier in the thread?

If the level sensor is like a Xantia one (two prongs that sense the resistance of the water) then they're not reliable... Once they get covered in crud they get less sensitive...

Thanks Jim.. yes eyes are on the small pipe now.. its showing discoloration when I looked at lunchtime.. may be able to do small journeys ok for a while , waiting for another pipe to arrive..

Any thoughts on the suspension? I will try and look later but have not been under the back before .. maybe something has unclipped..

No, sadly :( What I know about C5 suspension can be written on the head of a very small pin but I do believe it's similar in principle to the Xantia but the HC is replaced by an electronic pot... I would assume there's some sort of dog-bone type coupling between it and the ARB...

That's go to be worth a check...

There is a dog bone at the back. They are metal now and the head on mine rusted at the joint to the shaft and fell off :) .....easy to get as there is not a wheel holder in the way.
From the roll bar to a pot ( as Jim says)

£5.00 at a dealers.................. I tac-welded the head back on as a temp measure......and it is still there :) so have a spare if you need it urgent and it is on backorder at Citroen.

many thanks Alasdair.. the welder came out and done! was a very tough drive home from work..
re coolant loss : certain now the broken pipe is the problem .. added a litre of premixed OAT and some water, and have a fair bit of 50/50 in there from the beginning, so hopeful I am ok down to -10 or 15C

phew...
chaps I need to sell the blue C5 for anything , as its now in the way of farm a bit..

will put on the for sale section..

;)
a one headed dog bone was found.. I didn't have time to take pics.. I got onto ramps and on high, removed the plastic cover, removed both bits and wire brushed and dragged welder from corner of workshop and blasted once, heavily, added some heavy grease, and its done the trick :P

the link does sooo little work! I can blow the pot from high to low!

now back to coolant pipe from block removal, grrrr.. will order pipe tomorrow for a weekend fit...

Excellent :D so pleased that one is resolved... AS you say John, only the French could make a plastic part outlast a metal one... Priceless
