new addition to fleet

Post by jgra1 »

hi everyone, it was destined to be..

I am now the new owner of a C5 X7 - a wihte auto 2.0 HDI 160HP..

but of course it is broken.. how broke remains to be seen..
The car suffered fomr low oil pressure with the previous owner (Simon, I will direct him to this post in due course) and hasn't ran since..
I have done an initial lexia session on it and will try to post that later..
Interestingly there were some turbo errors reported in the few KM before the incident may have happened..

pics later- it only just fits in the little farm building
John

Second Gen 2.0 hdi 16v - Brave man John, but well done! Has to be an engine out job though!

Ive had nothing to do with the HDi 16v 2.0 except drive them, and First gen only too. id expect a full engine rebuild if not replacement with that sort of damage/issues.

That said, the bits ON the engine are the expensive thing not the bits in it, so with some skills (he has) and time, I would think not to bad in $$ spend

LOL...I KNOW you KNOW, that you KNOW, both I and you both KNOW, that I KNOW little compared to what you KNOW he Knows. :)

It was not a dig mate, was talking open on the forum rather than as a reply direct in disagreement. (hence not quote)

I've been noticing how cheap you can pick up x7's with knackered engines on eBay, too - ridiculously cheap. It's very tempting.

If I didn't have so many projects, I would probably join you in picking one up, as a replacement for my s1 C5... (However, I'm also concerned that actually, the rest of the car is nothing like as well built or reliable and parts supply appears to be poor, so in my case, it could be one step forward but 5 back?)

Good luck with it - will be interesting to see how you get on.

There is one hundred times less room in an x7 .. no where to store anything AND STILL no cup holders!! So in that area an x7 is a huge backward step.. though they are well constructed and the door cards are easy to remove and window winder motors are designed to be seperate from the winder cables and guides.. so easyer to repair when cables go... and they do.. as I know already. I like them.. but would not spend a lot on one..

remember EXCLUSIVE only with hydraulics in these... no other model.

If it's not a daft question, what is it causing the 160hp engines to die ? Are they all (mostly) low oil pressure deaths - if so, what - specifically - is causing the low oil pressure ? Pump failure ?
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Wasn't there another Citroen engine that suffered a similar oil pressure problem due to the oil strainer in the sump being of too fine a mesh and becoming choked if oil changes were not strictly adhered to?
