C5 MK2 heater blowing cold on passenger

Post by SageDesign »

2008 MK2 C5 Exclusive: passenger side of heater always cold. Driver side works OK. Apparently NOT the control motors behind the glove box.

It wont be the motors them selfs but it WILL be the Flaps that direct the air flow, and useually the teeth IN the heater box itself...

Passenger heater motor can be accessed after removing the glove box, if you remove the motor you should find the motor will respond to heat change setings, but the flap control will either be stuck or the mating cog may be chewed...

The motor responds to heat setting changes: the cog does turn, and the mating cog does move: about 1/3 of a turn, so I presume that the air distribution flaps are stuck. I have ordered a Haynes manual, but do not know how helpful that might be. How difficult is it to get at the flaps? In the process of trying to diagnose the problem, I now have the cog & the mating cog out of sync!

Type "407 flap" (without the quotes) into the google search box beneath the header on this page. There are several useful hits.
