[C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum so hello everyone!
I'm having some issues with my Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi Exclusive 2008 (Mk3).
It has 120k miles on the clock.
A couple days ago i had an Engine Management System Fault code when I was driving to work on the morning (Check Engine on the dashboard but nothing else like SERVICE indicator).
Car has lost it's power and I can't really accelerate. But it drives at least.
I connected it to my OBD2 and simple software on my phone and scanned for faults.
I got the following faults:
P1447 - looks like my DPF is clogged. I don't believe it's has ever been changed so might be possible. Considering that i do only 10 miles a day on the motorway and 15 miles in town/side roads it's possible that it has had no chance to run the cleaning procedure. But the question I have is should it be something else flashing on my dashboard? I would imagine a DPF clogged info on the dashboard and SERVICE light, am I wrong?
P0409 - EGR Valve - Valve detected jammed while the ECU is becoming dormant ? That's what I've found in DocBackup. I'm gonna need to change the EGR, am I right?
P1351 - Preheater relay - Opening of the relay although not requested by the ECU as stated in DocBackup. Not sure what that could be. Any ideas?
U3FFF - Network. couldn't find anything about that but I have a feeling this could be related with the tuning chip i put in a couple years ago.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
Can you read live data on your scanner? You need to see what the pressure drop across the DPF is - it could be that the pressure sensor has failed. P0409 can cause all sorts of havoc - I eventually figured out that it was the EGR valve putting the handbrake warning light on in our C4 Picasso! I would check the DPF pressure drop - if it reads something silly like 128 mbar even with the engine off, then change the pressure sensor. If you can't get live data, then have a look on the Lexia Locations thread and see if someone is near you that can read the data. You might well need to clean or change the EGR valve though, which is a bit of a trial on the 2.0 engine AFAIK.

Hi mate,
Unfortunately I can't read live data. It's very basic one and I can only read fault codes and erase them if needed.
I'll be in touch with somebody with Lexia who lives nearby.
Thanks much.

I'm gonna go ahead with the DPF replacement. Will see if this helps.
My question is do I need to re-program the ECU?

Yes, with a Lexia.............re set fluid levels etc
May I throw in this, if that is your driving activity, maybe a diesel with DPF is not the type of car for your needs ?

So without re-programming I might still have the fault and check engine light on the dash?

Yes, there is very little you can do on a C5 without a Lexia.
....it would be the best £150 you ever spend on the car if you do this type of work outside a dealer/specialist, I would say for any DIY work above brake pads and lights, then a Lexia is a tool that you must have as part of your "standard" kit.
For example, it may tell you that it is one of the sensors that is the fault and not the filter being blocked.

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
Filter hasn't been shipped yet so if you're saying changing it won't help I'm gonna cancel the purchase (I've found one for £140).
Is it really £150 for Lexia?
What about one like this?

Hi
I an not saying it is or it is not, just that to be sure what your problem is you need a Lexia to read the faults/ECU.
It is needed to clear both persistent fault warnings as well as temp/historical ones.
£150 is a max and are know good ones with after sales assistance/set-up , some people have had problems with the china clones....
Others here know loads more on the Lexia and its clones than me.

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
I understand that Lexia would give me precise information of what the faulty component is.
I'm trying to understand one thing: assuming the faulty component is DPF filter, would swapping the old one with the new resolve the issue or need to additionally play with the ECU? I thought that I can remove the old one, put the new one, clear the fault and job done, isn't it?

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
Think (?) DPF faults are shown permanently on the x7 until they are cleared via the service menu.....as said, I hope others comment as I have to little experience with the system as I do only ever what's needed.
I had to reset on the Mk1 facelift, I am however not sure on the later C5x7 as I have not needed to do that job yet.

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
That's where Lexia/DiagBox comes to play, so no assuming is necessary ... today's cars are so complex, the instrument panel/navigation screen's errors are so generic, you can't even bother with them ... i.e., low tyre pressure ... you may have a blown tire, a faulty valve, a faulty TPMS computer or just a simple wire break ... assuming is a costly method of solving problems nowadays ...Marius wrote:assuming the faulty component is DPF filter

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
OK, got it
How can I get Lexia which will fit to my needs?
I'm quite confused with the different types of versions (7.05, 7.76, 7.66, etc) and I know there are Chinese clones and others.
I just need one which would work fine with my C5. Any suggestions please?

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
I would suggest contacting Easy Diagnostics. They are knowledgeable, their kit is up to date, and it works. If you mention that you are a member of this forum they may give you a slight discount (but I cannot guarantee this). I have one of their Lexia units, and it works on my C5 (MK1). It is running 7.15 Diagbox software.

Re: [C5 Mk3] Various fault codes and check engine fault
When I got mine, it was version 7.16 as latest and covered with updates, but you have to start installing with version 7.01 and update individually until you get to the version you want (I'm currently running 7.57 as it is the last stable version I've encountered, the newer ones will fail sooner or later with internet activation -> complete reinstall of the software will be necessary). Also, the C5 & Peugeot 307 compatibility is usually highlighted on some versions (Lexia and/or DiagBox), which will mean it will work with eh X7 (Mk3) as well.Marius wrote:I'm quite confused with the different types of versions (7.05, 7.76, 7.66, etc) and I know there are Chinese clones and others.
