The mechanic that fitted the parts is scratching his head and is mystified he don't no what the problem can be he's sayin because it started and drove a couple of miles it isn't nothing he's done wrong but it sure sounds like it to be honest.

If he didn't tighten the tensioner pulley correctly, the belt would slip after a couple of miles and the timing be lost - just for starters!

That's what I've told him he came straight out to me when I broke down he pulled the timing belt cover of and because the belt was tight he dismissed the assumption the belt had slipped it funny it all went wrong after he fitted a new water pump and belt and only tipext the pulleys up to put back in the right place .

I have direct experience of an HID engine running a couple of teeth out (rather roughly), and then for a hundred miles or so with corrected timing before breaking a cam follower. Presumably the rocker was weakened initially but kept working for a while.
Don't ask who fitted the belt
I wonder if this is a similar scenario.

Hello dnsey my car started on the button drove for about two miles then just gave up and won't even turn over now sound like its locking up when trying to start it but I've been advised not to try and start it until my mechanic as had another look at it yes I had a professional do the job and he's still stuck for an answer.

I would ask him to do the belt again by locking the timing with the pins and making sure the floating crank sprocket is bang on in the middle of woodruff key.
It just may be a tad out on timing.

Once the belt's fitted, it's necessary to turn the engine over a couple of times manually to equalise the belt tension, and to re-check the timing. It's surprising how far out it can be.

There are no timing marks as such Eddie, indexing pins are used through the cam sprocket and flywheel to lock both securely.

It really does sound as if the timing has slipped badly but normally damage is limited to just broken cam followers. I would think the garage must take responsibility if the timing has slipped. The HDi has a manual tensioner and does need care in adjustment and setting up.

Let us know the outcome.
