Citroen C5 headlamp flickering

Post by begins »

Dear all,

My Citroen C5 Year 2007 (VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]), Petrol 2.0 headlamp is now flickering non-stop when switched on.

I suspect it is time to change the HID bulbs. I hope it is easy to change the bulb.

Can any kind souls help me by advising me on the part number?

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Hi Begins, here is the tech excerpt for your C5 based on your supplied VIN. It is a D1S Bulb. VERY high voltage here so would suggest disconnecting battery and then flashing lights to discharge any residual current if you are going to do this yourself. Also, suggest you change in pairs.

I wouldn't recommend Ebay or Amazon for these types of bulbs as there are anything up to 80% fakes going around. I have just ordered 2 x Osram D1S HID 35w Xenarc Night Breaker Unlimited bulbs directly from one of the 3 OSRAM approved suppliers for this very reason at a cost of £63.52 each. These are claimed to be the most powerful Xenon Bulbs on the Market and are ECE approved. They have up to 70% more light and 20m longer beam than standard Xenons, hence the premium. You can get the original OSRAM OEM Xenarc Bulbs as fitted by Citroen from for less (circa £39).

Halfords do a D1S bulb for about £59 each. - Might be worth paying them to fit it too as will still be cheaper than main dealer!
Personally, I would pay the extra few quid for the OSRAMS and fit myself, although on the C5 MKII I do believe you need to be Captain Elastic (?) with twiglet fingers as a prerequisite. I have a MKIII and will be fitting mine this weekend - but I think there is a little more room on this model!

Hi Begins - just noticed you are in Malaysia! #-o - So ignore the links to Halfords (unless they have branched out to the Far East)! Anyway I hope you find the rest of the info helpful. 8-)

Hi there,

Thank you very much for the information and the links.

I was quoted about £108 for just one bulb by the local dealer. Hence, I've decided to import them from overseas.
Frankly, I intend to change my ride hopefully a year later hence, I don't mind to go with any workable bulbs so long it can last me for at least a year or so =D> . Not going to pay more for branded 6K bulb and above, probably factory default spec will do the job.

The prices in ebay seem attractive, you can probably can get as little as £59 for 2 of them, inclusive of shipping.

You're Welcome - just do be aware that a lot of these on ebay are fakes and can be dangerous (fire hazards etc.). Here is a link to some information you might find helpful: http://www.powerbulbs.com/eu/blog/2014/ ... al-or-fake

@ Van Ordinaire - I didn't even think Halfrauds operated outside the UK! To be honest, I never use them for car parts as they are totally useless (wipers that screech, bulbs that last a month if you are lucky etc.) and of course they list all the wrong bulbs for my X7 in store and on the web (just emailed their customer service about that and gave them all the right info.). I only used them for the 5lt concentrated screen wash (can't really go wrong with that) and car cleaning polish and the odd sponge! Tell a lie - I did try their new paint matching service for mativoire beige ('Gold' to the rest of us) and that was reasonable to be fair.

Hal whatever you call them have crossed the Irish sea. Prices are a bit mad but they often have special offers. I think they might be competitive with bicycles. However their parts are generally unaffordable. For their stuff to be affordable in the UK prices must have been converted at the rate of €5 to £1 :rofl2: luckily the auto factor market here is quite saturated and competitive. Most of them also have a good selection of the bits and pieces that attract people to Halwhateveryacllthem in the UK. Best deal I have seen on the 5l of ready to use winter screen wash was €3 in Woodies.
