Yes, it must have just been on the edge of not working because to listen to it has always sounds a little lazy when cranking but it did always start. The car has been used for the last week or so and has been brilliant apparently. Interesting that Citroen didn't pick up a faulty starter motor but I guess it's the simple things that can flumux us all. If we ever meet, I'll buy you a beer.

It is shameful that Citroen didn't spot the problem as it is a common fault on C5s.

Does anyone know what the actual starter fault usually is?
Sounds suspiciously like eroded solenoid contacts, which can often be refurbished or replaced at minimal cost.

They generally give good service nowadays so any fault it develops at a high mileage is indicative of wear, so best change it or you will be doing the bearings or brushes next.
