Xsara 2.0 Hdi - STOP warning

Post by smoker »

Occasionally while driving the car flashes up the STOP warning on the dashboard, along with the light in the engine temperature gauge. Sometime the cooling fan runs when this happens, but not always. There are no other symptoms - engine temp and coolant level are fine and usually switching the engine off and restarting clears the fault. Hasn't done it for a while - in fact over summer, but did again this wet morning, leading me to suspect a dodgy connection. Is this a known fault - any ideas where to start looking?

Many thanks

Last I enquired about this specific issue, its something to do with the AC system.

I'll have a look around to see if I can find the answer again...

One of my daughters ran a Xsara 2ltr for a lot of years. At one time she sometimes found it showed the stop light together with the temperature gauge reading high. I changed the temperature sender in the end of the cylinder head and all was well afterwards.

Thanks for the insight guys. The connection with the demister setting makes sense, but will need to check the fans as I believe they both run when required. Will also investigate the temp sensor - I might try to get some resistance figures to see if I can test it in situ.

Thanks again.

If the gauge is reading OK, then it will be the fans - there is only 1 temp sensor, so if the gauge is OK, so is the sensor.
